Bob Reader Obituary
Sadly and suddenly, Dr. Bob Reader passed away on August 5 at Georgian Bay Hospital. He was the devoted and loving partner for almost 60 years of Susan, the caring father of Cathy, (Warren) Rob (Jennifer) and Tom (Patricia) and the adoring grandfather, "Meeets" of Emma, Rebecca, Rory, Isabel, Arden and Dale.
He was a scientist, family doctor, farmer and a book of knowledge!
He was a man of many interests: camping in 1972 and 1975 orange VW vans to Mexico, Canada and western US, steam trains, flora and fauna, carpentry, history, Vox Huronia, and a great lover of dogs.
Bob went into Medicine when the kids were young, after completing his post-doc in Biophysics in Madison, Wisconsin. He shared a family practice in Bolton for many years and did outreach medicine with the Anishnaabe Centre in Toronto, all while farming cattle and chickens on 50 acres and raising his three children. He volunteered at the Tottenham steam train and went to Poland and actually drove a steam train between two towns.
In 2000, Bob and Susan moved permanently to Cawaja Beach where Susan's family has cottaged since 1926. He continued to practice family medicine part-time in Midland and on Christian Island, which he enjoyed very much. Bob volunteered in several local organizations, including Rory's hockey team, the Library, Tiny Marsh, the Midland Naturalist Club and The Restore.
Bob loved travelling, especially through Central America, always accompanied by his intrepid travel partner Susan. Bird watching and exploring off the beaten path were the highlights of many of these trips.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A small Celebration of life was held at the Explorers Café on Saturday, August 13.
