Brian Merkley Obituary

(1947-2021) It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing, at home of Brian Merkley April 17, 2021 in his 74th year. Brian had many hurdles to overcome in the last three years and fought courageously each and every time with a positive attitude and a strong faith in God. Brian was the beloved husband to Linda Merkley of 52 years, supportive father to Arlene Merkley (John) and JJ Merkley (Jill) and endearing grandfather to Katelyn and Markus. Brian was the cherished son of Mary Merkley (deceased) and Robert Merkley (deceased). Dear brother of Bob Merkley (deceased) (Carol), Larry Merkley (Annette), Ronald Merkley (deceased Marlene), Cecil Merkley (deceased Phyllis) and Barbara DesRoches (Venard). He will be remembered fondly by his many nieces and nephews. Brian was born in Midland and enjoyed sports particularly baseball and hockey. He played junior hockey and later in life loved playing with the Penetang Oldtimers. He was passionate about fishing and the outdoors with his pals and looked forward to his Dorset trips. His greatest pleasure was being around his children and grandchildren. Brian was a true family man. His smile and welcoming nature made everyone fall in love with him. Anyone who met Brian would describe him as a kind, quiet, genuine and an incredibly sweet man. The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Robert Helt for his tremendous support, care and compassion. You truly went above and beyond and it will never be forgotten. Shelly, administrative assistant your kindness and care for Brian and for our family have been incredible and we would like to send our sincerest thank you. We would also like to thank all the PSW's and Bayshore nursing staff who took care of Brian, you are all amazing. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that a donation be made to the Diabetes Association of Canada. Messages of condolence will be received at leclaircremationcentre.ca

Mae & I would like to send our sincere condolences to Lynda, Arlene and JJ Brian and I had some good times over the years. Playing hockey in Sunday Morning Rec league and later with Memories Oldtimers quite often travelling together to games and tournaments. I am sure the physical being will be greatly missed but the many great memories will live on for ever.

Dear Linda,Arlene and JJ
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Brian. I thought back to the many great times we had of playing hockey for the Memories and spending time in all those different arenas
Brian was great hockey player, but a better person and I am certain an even better husband and father! He will certainly be missed!
Know that Shirley and I are thinking of each of you at this sad time.
