Cheryl Fitzpatrick Obituary

Cheryl (68) passed away on Sunday April 24 at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre after a short, but hard-fought battle with CJD.

Born in Arnprior to Leonard Craig and Eva Jean (Gordon), Cheryl was the second youngest of 6 children She graduated high school early and went to Loyalist College, earning a diploma in media & photography. There she met her husband, Richard Joseph Fitzpatrick (predeceased, 2016). They moved to Kingston, where they had a daughter, then to Toronto, where they had a son.

From an early age, Cheryl had a passion for music, and a love of dance. She taught step dancing as a teenager, and competed, performing on a national broadcast and in an Imax movie with her sister Leona. She loved working with children. In all things Cheryl led by an example of quiet leadership, and a determination to follow her dreams. She learned and taught piano, eventually going back to school in her 40s with distance learning to get a degree in music, and her teaching certification. She taught with the Toronto District School Board as a music teacher and librarian, then later became a vice-principal and principal. She retired to Wasaga Beach in 2016 but continued to supply with the TDSB until 2020. In Wasaga Beach, she joined a choir, the friends of the library and the Wasaga Beach beautification committee.

Cheryl leaves behind her siblings Betty (Ron), Glenda (Ken), Darlene (Tom), Leona, and Russell (Beverley), her children Heather (Keith) and Dan, her grandson Patrick, and many nieces and nephews. A drop-in celebration of life gathering will be held at 270 River Road East, Wasaga Beach on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 12 - 6 pm. Please note that the venue's capacity is limited as it is not a funeral home and cannot receive deliveries.

We are shocked and so very saddened by Cheryl´s passing. We would often run into Cheryl as we walked our neighbourhood trails. She always had a warm smile. Most recently we had a playful snowball fight with Cheryl and her Grandson, Patrick, whom she was so proud of. She contributed so much to our neighbourhood. You will be missed Cheryl. Our condolences and heartfelt sympathy to Heather, Dan, Patrick and all of Cheryl´s family.

My sincerest condolences to Heather, Dan and all of Cheryl's family. I am heartbroken over Cheryl's sudden death. As her neighbor and friend, I got to know Cheryl over the past 6 years, but more so this past year, where we spent time chatting and laughing most times we talked. Cheryl's quiet strength is what I noticed and will remember the most, and her consistent optimism, in spite of everything. Her sincere friendship will forever be missed by me. My house will not be the same without seeing Cheryl next door, and planning on what we needed to get done to the house (since our homes were adjoined). It is the simple things I'll miss most - How Cheryl would move my garbage bins to my garage door without asking, and how she'd dismiss my dog's crazy barking by saying "Oh Rambo, it's just me"... - I miss you so much Cheryl, and wish I could give you a big hug. You were a gentle lady, and a gentle soul who I will never forget. I'll see you again one day, say hi to my dad for me. With love, your friend Bee (and Rambo).
