December 22, 1941 - April 8, 2022
Passed away peacefully at Matthew's House Hospice in his 80th year, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of 38 years to Sherryl Emery Jackson. Father of Kayla (James) and Douglas Jackson. Brother of Catherine (Janis) Epners. Predeceased by his parents Arthur and Cecily (Hutt) Jackson. Treasured by family, friends and students alike, Derek will be fondly remembered by his in-laws, nieces and nephews, and all whose lives he touched.
Born and raised in Toronto, Derek began his working life as a professional tuba player but found that teaching was his true calling. He met his wife teaching together and shortly after moved to Alliston to raise their children. Derek was an outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and spending time at his cottage or farm properties.
A celebration of life will be held at Drury Funeral Centre 519 Victoria St. E., Alliston on Friday, April 22, 2022 from 1-4 with a time of remembrances shared at 2:00 p.m. If so desired, memorial donations to Matthews House Hospice in Alliston, or the Canadian Kidney Foundation would be appreciated.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Matthew's House Hospice for the loving and sympathetic concern and care given to Derek, as well as to St. Elizabeth's Health Care, Cindy, Aryln, Nurse Kayla and Dr. Jansen.
