When I was in grade 6 my mom was diagnosed with cancer. Even though I never had him as a teacher, Eddie and a group of other staff went over to our house and dropped off food. He was such a kind person who will always be missed.

I wish I could have met him one last time in person now that I’m older. I’d like to say I’m very thankful for all of his wise words and teachings. He changed my life for the better. And always teaching me to never give up. He’s always had a way of making you feel like you mattered. To never give up. Look forward and try harder. He’d show love and compassion to everyone. Mr. Ing will forever be remembered in my heart. And I will never forget his big smile. I grew up remembering his teachings this many years later he was my teacher in the late 90’s. But his impact on my life will go on with me forever. Until we meet again. Rest In Peace

I just saw such a tender gesture from Mr Ing, when my daughter was giving the 6th grade valedictory speech, in 2011. She's short. Or she was then. And he reached out, gently, to tip the mic towards her mouth, so she could be heard. It's such a good memory.

I bless his memory, and send courage to those who loved him.

To Jill and all Eddie's family, I wish to offer you my condolences at this heart-breaking news. I've met Eddie a half-dozen or so times over the years, and was immediately and always impressed with his infectious smile, focus on others, friendliness, and unusual kindness. For instance, years ago, one of my grand-daughters was visiting from Germany. She was around six or seven, and was quite impressed by her older Canadian cousin's hockey gear, at a moment when Eddie happened to be present. Later that same day, Eddie returned with a hockey stick for this visiting child. This is yet one more example of his being so attentive to what was going on with other people, especially children, and his doing deeds to help others feel included, and cared about. I am deeply saddened by the loss of Eddie, such an extraordinarily fine human being. June Etta Chenard (Gilles' Mum)

Our family had students at Howard for 14 years, coinciding with the start of Eddie's teaching career. Even in those early days, it was clear that he was a gifted and caring teacher who had a soft spot for children who were facing challenges in their lives. We feel very fortunate to have known him, and express our condolences to his family and friends.
