Harold GIBBONS Obituary
On Wednesday, September 15, 2021, Harold Gibbons, beloved husband of Margaret R. Gibbons for 69 years. Father of Carol (Rick), Daryl (Val), Robert (Monique), and Marshall (Debra). Proud grandfather to Kris, Rick, Jason, Darcy, Krüz, Kelly, Michelle, Sean, Shandra, Madison, Ryan and great-grandfather to Brooklyn, Isaiah, Abby, McKenna, Pearson, Brock and Lincoln. Predeceased by his wife Margaret, his daughter Carol, and all of his siblings Minette, Lorine, Bill, Joe and Marshall.
Harold, the youngest of six children to Bert and Minnie Gibbons, was born on May 4, 1927 in London, Ontario. He completed public school in London and attended H.B. Beal Technical and Commercial High School where he studied motor mechanics, chemistry and electricity. He had many memories of get-togethers with extended family throughout Ontario, with those from Barrie and Gravenhurst being particularly fond. One highlight of his early years was a visit to relatives in Chicago in 1933, where he attended the World's Fair and saw many fascinating things.
Following school, Harold held various jobs including commercial roofer, truck driver, and box binder at McCormicks Limited, where he met his future wife. In 1946, he became an ink manufacturer with General Printing Ink Corporation of Canada (GPI), a division of Sun Chemical. In 1949 he and Margaret married and soon began their family. In 1956 Harold was transferred to Winnipeg where he supplied ink to Somerville Industries, which produced many of the milk and beverage cartons that ended up in your refrigerator.
The family first resided in Silver Heights then, in 1958, they purchased a new home in the burgeoning subdivision of Windsor Park. He was an active volunteer in the community early on, coaching baseball at Winakwa Community Club, fundraising for Scouts Canada, and providing assistance to those in need. Professionally, he was a long-serving member of the Winnipeg Club of Printing House Craftsmen, and in the 1970s he started a small import-export business with the International Traders organization. In 1992, following 46 years of dedicated service to Sun Chemical, he retired.
In his new-found leisure time Harold liked to write to and get together with family and friends, take in the occasional meal at the local restaurants, and putter away at little projects in the workshop. He actively watched the comings and goings on the street and was sure to introduce himself to new residents, At the time of his passing, Harold was the oldest and last of the original residents on his street. He was always willing to lend a tool or offer advice, and he gave generously to charities. True to the old corporate motto: you can rely on the guy from GPI.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the medical and support staff at St. Boniface Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion for Dad. Also, a special thanks to Henry for helping dad out of the tub on that day, many years ago.

I am so sorry to learn my dearest uncle has left this earth. I always looked forward to phone conversations. I will miss his cards, "To my princess".
