Louis Kovacs Obituary

Sadly, Louis Kovacs passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in his 91th year at Woods Park Care Centre in Barrie after a long struggle with congestive heart failure. He was born in Kiskunhalas, Hungary on April 24, 1932 to Michael and Julia Kovacs, and was the second of five children. He was the only one in his family to escape Hungary during the Hungarian revolution of 1956-1957 to create a better life. In Barrie, he was well-known for building his quality homes. Louis lived a life based on hard work and determination no matter what the cost was to himself. Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Michael (1984) and Julia (1996) and his sister, Theresa (2015). Beloved husband to Aranka "Aran" (nee Halmai) for 44 years, loving father to Lynn Kovacs-Reid (Robert Reid) and Dean Kovacs, and proud papa to Owen Kovacs, Miranda, Damon Reid of Barrie and Rochester, MN. Louis is survived by his older brother, Michael, and younger sisters, Katalin and Julia, of Hungary, as well as his sisters' children and grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Zoltan Halmai, and his daughter, Katika, of London, Ontario. A private cremation has taken place, and a Funeral Mass was at St Mary's Catholic Church, on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. Online memories and condolences may be made at www.peacefultransition.ca. Always in our hearts sweet husband, father, papa.

Louis built our house out Sunnidale Rd. in 1969. I will never forget the day he told us how he escaped from Hungary in 1956....his story stuck with me forever...I am sorry to hear of his passing.
