When I was about 12 years old, I went to see her 2 or 3 times in London. I had severe Epilepsy at the time & had gone from doctor to doctor. All of whom labeled me as a good actress & a girl who just wanted attention; & they labeled my Mom as an overly protected mother who had a daughter that thought she was sick. I grew up always feeling very depressed & discouraged off & on & never knew what it was to go & see a doctor who truly listened to you, trusted you, believed you & treated you like a human being. She really had a gift of seeing you for who you were & knowing if you were being straight with her or not. I always was & after my visits with her, she said, I truly believed that you have a serious medical problem & I hope that one day, you will find someone who can help you. Those words really stuck with me throughout my life ever since. Any time I had someone bully me & say that my Epilepsy was a serious genetic problem in my family (which was false), I would say that Dr. Thorpe told me this. Instantly, they would shut up. Her words were my sense of defense when others would label us (my parents, siblings & I) unfairly. She was a really great doctor who did not have to see me for many years each week to see me for who I was, etc... & was always a great listener, very patient, polite & sincere too. You will never see another doctor like her, ever. Her words were very inspiring & the fact that she truly trusted me & believed me felt way better than what people say winning the lottery feels like. She made you feel like you were someone & not something. Her passing is a great loss to patients of all ages & with any issue. Thank you Dr. Thorpe for being the 1st doctor who made us feel like you were for us & not against us. I am eternally grateful to you & the amazing service you provided to patients like myself. :)

I only knew Marilyn briefly through a distance counselling course, but it was such a gift to connect with her and get to know her. She was such a lover of animals and nature and loved to go for hikes with Jupiter. Marilyn was an intuitive, caring and gifted therapist and had a calling for helping people. She gave so much and I'm so grateful to have known her, if only for a brief time. My thoughts and prayers to her family.
