Violet Nash Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Violet Nash (nee Root) announce her passing on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the age of 65. After a lengthy battle with pulmonary fibrosis, Violet passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family at Matthews House Hospice in Alliston.

She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her daughter Helaina, son-in-law David, and grandson Emmett. Also profoundly affected by her loss are her beloved sisters Mary and Kathy (Dan), and brother Bob (Jane). Violet loved her many nieces and nephews, and will be especially missed by April, Sam, and Kelly. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law Susan and Lori (Gilbert) and her Uncle Ron (Donna). She will also be dearly missed by her longtime friends Brenda, Jayne, Robyn and Kathy, and by Joan and Jim and all her other friends on Kingsmere Crescent.

Violet was predeceased by her husband and soulmate Jack, her brother and "rock" Sid, her grandson Jasper, and her parents Charles and Betty Root.

Violet loved to travel and surprised many with her adventurous nature, from taking solo road trips to visit her friends and family to more daring adventures like glider flights. This adventurous spirit saw her hitchhike to Mexico in her teenage years, and make a living picking fruit in the Okanagan Valley. Raised in Oshawa, she returned there to raise her daughter after living in Alberta for a few years. Violet was proud of her hard work and retired from Darlington Nuclear Generating Station in 2014. After retirement she moved to Alliston to be closer to Lainy and Emmett. She is known as one of the strongest and hardest working people that many of her friends and family ever knew. She will be forever remembered for her fierce independence, for spoiling her dog Roscoe, for her beautiful crochet work, for keeping an immaculately clean house, and for making the world's best butter tarts, fudge, caramel sauce, and jams.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. Jansen and the palliative team, and to the staff of Matthews House for their care and compassion. There was a great team effort to help Violet in her final days, and we are forever grateful to each of you for giving her the peaceful transition she hoped for.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 18th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Drury Funeral Centre in Alliston.

Memorial donations to Matthews House Hospice in Alliston or to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in Violet's memory would be very much appreciated.
