Gerard Chiasson Obituary
Gerard Wilfred Chiasson was born in Lac La Biche, Alberta on August 22, 1943, and passed November 26, 2017, at the age of 74 years.
Dad left his daughters Lucy (Rick, Lincoln, and Sookie), and Renée (Michael, Thomas, and Lara), siblings Marie, Patricia, Evelyn, George, and Gisele. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Claudette (Blais), brothers Joseph, Levis, and Leonard, parents Tom, Alfred Durocher, and Leonne (Dechaine).
For those of you who knew Dad it was not a surprise that his heart simply became too weak to continue with its job. His heart, indeed, was far more than an efficient pump; although efficiency was an important concept for him as a farm boy and machinist.
Dad's heart was an organ of fire (Ondaatje) – fire for political and philosophical discourse, fire for a fine joke, spoonerism, or outlandish story, fire for creating, tinkering, and building, fire for anyone who would join him for a cup of coffee, and fire for the love he had for family and friends. He once lifted the front end of a small car to prevent its occupants from leaving a great evening that he did not want to end.
He was a man of many talents, opinions, and interests. He was private, determined, and stubbornly proud. His last few years were not easy as he dealt with ongoing health issues and crushing losses. He managed none the less; seldom asking for help. When he did let his guard down and showed his vulnerability, you truly knew how very grateful he was for your assistance or your time.
He was called "chatterbox" as a child; getting carried away in conversations and ideas. As a young man, he was strong; loving the outdoors and the challenges nature provided. As a maturing man, he was retrospective and even sentimental. Towards the end of his life, he wanted to tell people he loved them and spend time simply in their company.
Lucy and Renée would like to thank Dr. H Woytiuk for his decades of supportive medical care. A very special thanks to Bena and Jules Michaud, Ann and Den Jessey for their unending love.
We'd like to invite those who would like to celebrate Dad's life to a gathering to be held in the spring of 2018; venue yet to be determined. Bring some stories and some memories; maybe even some Crown Royal. We can toast to his life and his "Bubbles" eyeglasses. He would like that.
