James LANG Obituary

Jim died here in his beloved Squamish last week on January 2nd. Predeceased by his father John, Jim leaves to mourn his deeply loved daughter Nicola (Evan) and grandchildren Cameron, Sophia and Austen; mother Olive, sister Sheri, brothers John and Robert. Jim also leaves behind his partner Joanne and family, many close friends, including Roman and David who helped him live his best life in recent years.

Jim was born in Kingston Ontario. He was raised in a military family seeing service across Canada, overseas in Germany and finally settling on Vancouver Island. Jim came to Squamish as a teenager in the early 70's as a Youth Crew Worker in Garibaldi Park. So began a lifelong love of the valley, its mountains, forest and sea. After a career with BC Parks, Jim worked as a contractor in construction and camp operator at Porteau Cove for many years and ended his career as Squamish Emergency Program Manager.
Throughout, Jim volunteered thousands of hours, his heart and soul for Squamish Search and Rescue, Emergency Social Services, Marine Search and Rescue and Emergency Management for the Community. Jim's commitment to task, work ethic and sense of fun are legendary to all that knew him, he will be so missed.

Jim wanted us to be sure to thank the many doctors, nurses and health care workers involved in his care over the years, especially those at Squamish General Hospital, Vancouver General Hospital, the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation Sea to Sky Community Hospice in Squamish and the Squamish Home Nursing Team.
When we are able to gather together again, we will,
to celebrate our Mr. Lang.

He spread happiness wherever he was. I knew Jim when he worked at Garibaldi Lake in the 70’s. I often share stories of his hilarious shenanigans. He was a special soul and will be sorely missed.

Jim, so sorry to hear you are no longer with us but our years working together was an honour my friend! I will continue to think of you fondly with any Emergency Management work I am involved with or any time I am at Porteau Cove again! Until we meet again!

Well Jim it's hard to believe you are physically not here but your spirit will always live on in those of us who knew you. Memories of your amazing commitment and work ethics to SEP in all areas of the program were second to none. Great memories of 20 years working with you and the many hours of fun, laughter and biilding the program. Great memories of a group camp on Theisties, a church camp out at Porto and those delicious scrambled eggs for breakfast. All this followed by the precious memory of your baptism...what a moment that was! Now, Heaven has the joy of your spirit. In the meantime we will miss you and will never forget.

Until we meet again.....❤

We will never forget how fun he was and his crazy sense of humour. I think he must have been the inventor of glamping because he sure knew how to make camping luxurious no matter where. He was a such good teacher and explained things so well. We can’t imagine how much you all are going to miss him. Our hearts go out to to all of you. Sending lots of love to Nicola and family. ♥ Love, Gina and family xo
