Aleksander Romanko Obituary

Aleksander Romanko of St. Albert passed away peacefully on February 21, 2016.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Maria Alina; children: Bogumil (Gail), Leszek (Victoria), Marek (Wendy), and Adam; and four grandchildren: Ryan, Erin (Rob) Kadis, Niki, and Bryce.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mikolaj and Magdelana; brothers, Wladsylaw and Mikolaj; and daughter-in-law, Trish.

Olek's life journey began in Szpakowce, Poland and ended 94 years later at the Youville Home in St. Albert. During his journey he suffered the horrors of slave labour camps in Siberia and survived the World War II battle fields of Italy. In 1955 he immigrated to Canada where, together with Maria Alina, he established a happy and prosperous life for himself and his family.

Olek was a soldier, a farmer, and a laborer. He was a leader in the Polish community. Most importantly, he was a loving, caring and dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

The family thanks the staff at the Youville Home for their kindness and the care given to Aleksander.

Father Andrzej Sowa, OMI will celebrate a Funeral Mass on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 11485-106 Street, Edmonton.
