Carol OTTO Obituary

OTTO, Carol
September 22nd, 1931 - April 26th, 2014

After a relatively short decline, Carol passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 82. She is survived by her husband of 60 years – David; her three children – Steven (Mary), Susan, and Mike; and four grandchildren – Beth and Adam, Jeremy and Chelsea. Carol is predeceased by her sister Marion (John North) ~ but has nieces and nephews living in the United States.

As a life long church organist and choral accompanist, her contribution to music in and around Edmonton will be missed. As one of the original "Ardent" volunteers at the Arden theatre (28 years of service), her gentle guidance of volunteers and warm welcome to patrons will also be felt.

As per her wishes, Carol has been cremated and her remains will be taken to a favorite location. A memorial service for Carol will be held at St. John the Evangelist Tuesday, June 3rd at 3:30 pm (11111 - 57 Ave.) In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to "Habitat for Humanity" or to the Richard Eaton Singer's "Edmonton Community Foundation" c/o [email protected]">[email protected]">[email protected]">[email protected] in Carol's name.

So sorry to hear about Carol. I knew her through the RCCO. She was an amazing woman and great musician. She and David were so gracious about opening their home for events. She was very hard-working. She will be missed by many.

Our sincere sympathy to all of Carol's family....not only was Carol one of our neighbours, it was a privilege to have worked at the Arden Theatre with her for many years. May you always remember what a talented and gracious woman she was.

Not only is Mrs. Otto my friend's mom, she taught me and later, my son, how to play piano. Growing up with her I have many memories: the buttermilk pancakes after a sleepover, the drive to church on Sundays cleaning the ditches of bottles between St. Albert and Edmonton, the exposure to classical music, enjoying her garden fresh raspberries, and best of all, her crab-apple jelly! I will always have fond memories of Mrs. Otto and I send my love and prayers to her family.

I was saddened to hear of Carol's passing. I had the privilege to know Carol, her husband David, and son Mike through the Richard Eaton Singers. She was a gracious and generous lady with a deep passion for music. For David, Mike and the rest of the family, I offer a prayer of comfort in the knowledge that she is at peace. Carol has left a legacy that will live long through those she taught and those with whom she shared so many melodies. Rest in peace ... sing with the angels.

I am sad to hear about Carol's passing away. She taught my daughters piano lessons and I worked with her at both the Arden and the Children's Festival. I remember how hard she worked at Surprise Lake. Carol will be missed by many as she gave so much to the community and especially the youth.

My most sincere sympathy on the going home of Carol. She contributed so much to so many over the years through her outstanding music, especially through the church and the Richard Eaton Singers. I have memories of the Otto hospitality which will not fade. It is my prayer that the comfort which comes alone from above will support an sustain you through these sad hours and time to come. She will never be forgotten and will be widely missed. God be with you...

I only knew Carol as a fellow-traveller in Kenya in 2006. She and her dear husband, David, were such a terrific couple, and both were a treat to share time with. I remember Carol as a sweet woman, who would burst into song and entertain us with her lovely, clear voice. I felt lucky to have met her. My sympathies to you all, Joy
