Adrian Mierop Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Adrian, on April 19, 2021, at Royal Rose Place, after some recent health issues. Beloved son of Jenny (Adriana) Mierop. Cherished brother of Nellie Scholman and brother-in-law of Bob (Rita) Egerter. Special Uncle to Janice (Jeff) Rice, Dan Scholman, Kerri (Steve) Goodger, Kathleen (John) Katz, Blair (Laura) Egerter, Andrew (Lisa) Scholman and LeAnn (Mike) Thomson; as well as great-Uncle to many little ones, who he loved very much. He will be sadly missed by his aunts, uncles and cousins throughout Ontario and the Netherlands. Adrian was predeceased by his beloved father Daniel Mierop, cherished twin sisters Cathy Egerter and Carol Selinger, and baby sister Janey. Born with Down's Syndrome in 1962, he lived a full and rich life because of the care of his devoted mother, sisters and family. Up until the lockdowns, Adrian loved going to work at Community Living of Welland, bowling on Friday night with Special Olympics and spen-ding Saturday afternoons with Bob. He enjoyed watching construction in the neigh-bourhood, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and playing Santa at Christmas time. There was nothing better than to get a wave and to see him smile and laugh! The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and personal support workers at Royal Rose Place, specifically the Robinson Unit, for the compassion and care he received these past months. A heartfelt thank you to Pastor Carson of Christ Community Church for his care and support over the years. Arrangements are entrusted to Essentials Cremation and Burial Services (905-354-2133). Due to the current lockdown restrictions, a private family gathering and burial will take place at Fonthill Cemetery, 25 Highland Avenue. A memorial service celebrating Adrian's life will be held at a later time when family and friends can safely gather together. Memorial donations may be made to Community Living of Welland/Pelham or Christ Community Church in Welland. Online condolences and donations may be made on Adrian's tribute page, at EssentialsNiagara.com.

Our family grew up just a few houses away from Adrien. We moved in 1976 to the other side of Fonthill and our paths no longer crossed. I remember Adrian’s smile and the love he had for his family and his family for him. As the mom of a 20 year old with Down’s Syndrome I understand now how amazing his family was and still is. The intense joy that he expressed is well described in your obituary. The photo shows what a great person he became. My sympathies for your loss.

So sorry to hear of Adrian's passing. I always remember him going up and shaking hands with the Pastor after the service and often with everyone on the way out of church. May you feel God's comfort in this sad time. Hugs to all of you!
