Angelo Paonessa

It is with mixed sadness and peace that we announce the passing of our Father, Nonno, and BisNonno, Angelo Paonessa, who passed away exactly one month shy of his 95th birthday on October 1, 2022 at Greater Niagara General Hospital. Dear husband of the late Rosina (Tavano) (2017). Devoted, loved, and cared for Father of Rosa (Tony/Antonio) De Angelis. Deeply loved Nonno of Thomas (Elizabeth) and Angelo (Mandy) De Angelis. Adored BisNonno of Aria, Evan, Ryan, and Gabriel. Angelo loved his family very much, but his world revolved around his great-grandchildren. His eyes would light up and he could not stop smiling whenever he saw them. Brother of Luigi (Francheschina) of Port Colborne, and Antonio and sister Giuditta of Italy. Predeceased by his still born daughter, Marianna, his parents, Luigi and Rosa (Tavano), and his siblings, Raffaele, Maria Rosa, Letizia, and Domenico. Angelo was a shoemaker by profession in Italy before emigrating to Canada, working various jobs until hired on at Inco (Vale) in Port Colborne. His passion was gardening (up to last year), winemaking, mushroom picking, and all the Italian traditions. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 4673 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls, followed by entombment at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens in Fonthill. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Angelo's memory to the Canadian Heart and Stoke Foundation, the Palliative Care Unit at GNGH, or Alzheimer's Society of Canada. Due to COVID-19, the family requests that all in attendance wear masks.
