Angus Stubbert Obituary

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Angus Cameron Stubbert, former Director of Group Underwriting at Desjardins Financial Security, announce his peaceful yet sudden passing at his home in St Catharines, Ontario on December 19, 2021 at the age of 71 years.
Angus is survived and dearly missed by sisters Mina, Barbara, Faye, Marilyn and brother Wes. He will also be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, friends, neighbours, fellow congregants and reverends of St George's Anglican Church.
He is pre-deceased by his partner of nearly thirty years and the love of his life, William (Bill) Ewing Lowe, his parents Peter and Lucinda (Mackenzie) Stubbert, brothers Weslie, Edward, Leslie, Joseph and sister Sandra.
Born in Alder Point, Cape Breton NS, he then lived in Bras d'Or before making his way to Toronto in his late teens to seek work. He eventually joined the insurance industry, rising quickly through the ranks in underwriting and enjoying a successful career at Constellation, Prudential, Sun Life Financial, Manulife and Desjardins Finance, before finally retiring as an insurance underwriting consultant.
Throughout his career, Angus enjoyed the company and friendship of many of his colleagues. This culminated early on in being a founding member of the notorious 'Friday Night Club', an associate member of the 'Scooter Gang', as well as enjoying 'podiatrist appointments' with dear friends.
Angus lived with Bill on Amelia Street in Toronto for many years and was a proud Cabbagetowner, until the latter's death. He subsequently decided to move to St Catharines to be nearer to some of his family. At both residences he opened his heart and offered his home as a place of refuge and respite to many. His charitable spirit extended beyond friends and family, including donating to various charities supporting those in greater need than himself.
Blessed with witty repartee and a keen intellect, he was an avid reader and a sponge for information and thus a fountain of knowledge on a wide array of topics. He loved culture: opera, classical music, theatre and ballet. Passionate about food, he took a sabbatical from work in the 90s, during which he trained in Ottawa and was awarded his Cordon Bleu diploma.
More recently he became somewhat of an oenophile, enjoying trips to vineyards with dear neighbours, as well as meals out during which each course was accompanied by the appropriate beverage. When not out, he loved entertaining at home - whether hosting magnificent birthday celebrations in the grandeur of his dining room, high teas in his parlour, or simply chatting in the more relaxed poolside setting of his garden. Gregarious by nature, he loved socializing and was a member of several bridge clubs.
Following Angus's wishes, his cremation was immediate. Some ashes will be spread next to Bill at the Necropolis in Toronto, and the remainder will be spread near his beloved childhood home in Point Aconi, Cape Breton, to which he most recently wished to return. If desired, memorial donations to the homeless, or a charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life service will be held via live stream video link at 1pm EST on Saturday January 29, 2022. So many wonderful memories to be cherished forever. A common thread seems to be his gentle smile, intuitive responses, joie de vivre, curious nature, ability bring out the best, and making sure you knew you mattered.
Similar memories of lunches,
Pool parties, sitting at dining table,
Raking leaves lol, visiting the farm with mom and Karen, and just being there. I miss him walking up the stairs and his smile upon greeting. Shenanigans galore. Dancing together at Bolete!
Sharing our stories. Adding to our stories. One of a kind. Grateful to have finally met this gem of a human being.

If I listed every memory of Angus we would be reading forever, 40 years of memories do add up. I remember the Old Vic days, the parties, the dancing with him (only person I could really dance with), the pool parties, filming Going to Regina, dinners at China Village, many, many dinners at either home, New Year´s Eve parties and on and on. I will miss his sense of humour, his intelligence, his pretending he likes Dano better than me, the smile, the holding my hand when I´m crying, just being there, always being there for me. Love you!

When we think of Angus we will miss: Vietnamese pho together after a classical strings performance, trips to the market, coffee and something sweet on the porch, wine and snacks in the backyard or by the pool, a long conversation over the fence, fish and chips in Port Colborne and lunch together at who knows where. But most of all we will miss the tender voice, the smile, the laughter and the kindness. RIP Angus, one of the sweetest people I have ever known.
