Bernard BODOGH Obituary

APRIL 7, 1962 - April 29, 2021 It was 7:47 a.m. when Bernie made his final putt on his favourite hole. With a smile on his face, he gave us the last tip of his golf hat and walked off the green into the 19th hole in heaven. Bernie was the 6th child born to Frank (2002) and Catherine (2016.) He is the fun-loving brother to Christine (Enn), Marilyn (Neil) and Frances (Ricardo.) A brother to Gregory, (1963) Gerard (2008), Daniel (Colette) and Michael. He is the "Daddio" to his beautiful daughter Samantha (Dave) and Gramps to the light of his life "Sweet Baby James." Bernie loved his daughter Samantha (Kiddo.) He adored seeing the kindness that Sam always showed to everyone. Samantha made Bernie happy all the time, especially on April 7th where Sam gave her Daddio the best present ever when Dave and Sam became "Man and Wife" on his 59th birthday in the garden at Hospice Niagara. Bernie is the Uncle to Gregory, Christopher, Trevor, Coulson, Grayson, Katrina, Tamaira and Jaden. We would like to thank everyone at Hospice Niagara. They are ordinary people with extraordinary hearts. Our family is forever grateful for the magic they created for a beautiful journey for all of us. Bernie has asked for donations to be made to Hospice Niagara, The Stabler Centre, 403 Ontario Street, St. Catharines, L2N 1L5 (905) 984-8766 so that other families may LIVE well. Private family funeral Mass at St. Julia Church. Please visit the website of Simpler Times at www.simplertimescreamationcentre.ca to visually celebrate Bernie's life!!!

Our deepest sympathy to Bernie's family and friends. We only knew Bernie for a little while, but he was a great friend. We met Bernie at Marshall University in Huntington West Virginia in the early 80's. We remember his smile, his great golf stories and his laugh. Bernie, actually came to our wedding April 9th 1983 in Sissonville WV. Attached is Bernie being super cool. We loved him. Miss ya brother.

I knew Bernie from junior golf and enjoyed playing against such a competitor. Hitting the ball a mile made Bernie happy but he also had a good short game. Over the years, I had run into Bernie and he was always upbeat and greeted me with that great smile. Seeing the way Bernie handled himself dealing with his illness was inspirational. He stayed positive to the end, but when I ran into him about 4 months ago, he said his goodbyes. It was a sad moment but he took it like a man. Rest peacefully, Bernie.

I was fortunate to have Bernie as a friend. Played some golf with him where he excelled. 64 at Willowdell where he won the event and 69 at the Niagara District Champions of Champions 2019 where he cleaned everyone’s clock. Sadly two months before he was diagnosed with this horrible disease. Joey Balsom, Gary Calmusky, and I had a few rounds every year where we had lots of fun with Bernie. We’re all going to miss him.

Bernie was a great competitor and a kind friend ... like many, I will miss him dearly. In a year of such disappointment and heartache we can only throw up our hands and grieve at the injustice of losing Bernie so young.
I started golfing at SCGCC with Bernie back in the early 70's and he always impressed me with his mental toughness in playing the game and regularly coming out on top. More importantly though, I will miss his big smile, his ready wit and his kind words of encouragement and friendship. I'd like to extend my sincere sympathy and condolences to his family in this painful, heart-rending time. There is no easy way.
RIP Bernie ... the first weekend in Aug. certainly won't be the same without you.

I travelled and competed against Bernie in many golf tournaments over the last 30 years. He was always quick with a smile and laugh and I enjoyed playing with him very much. That great golf course in heaven just opened its doors to a great new member!!!

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Hope Bernie is enjoying some rounds of golf with his father and my dad Uncle Al. Dad talked about his golf game he last played with Bernie. He really enjoyed it and was so happy that Bernie made the trip to Ballantrae Golf & Country Club to play with him.
To all the Bodogh family, may you forever cherish the lovely memories.
God Bless.

Bernie was a kind man and a true gentleman; he always put others before himself. I have many years of happy memories that will be with me forever. Especially, when our daughter Samantha was born, I believe his heart grew 10 times bigger that day. A very proud dad. – Then years later came along Sweet James, our grandson, whom he instantly connected with, and the Love grew again. You don’t see that kind of Love often.
Bernie will undoubtedly be missed by everyone that was lucky enough to know him.
He had a passion for golf, he truly loved being on the course. I spent many days with Bernie, caddying for him at
tournaments. It was always such an exciting day, walking around the course watching him play. The crowd would keep growing as we approached each new hole, just so they could catch a glimpse of their favorite golfer, cheering him on. I am pretty sure Bernie has already
started a golf league in Heaven. I hope he is golfing up a storm with his Father Frank and my Father Joe. - Love you Bern!!! R.I.P.

A special smile, a special face
In our hearts, a special place,
Memories are a gift to treasure
Ours of you, will last forever.
