Brian Peat Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Brian Ernest Peat announce his passing on November 24th, peacefully at home in St. Catharines, in his 78th year.

Cherished brother of Diane Jepsen and much-loved uncle to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews in the Peat, Jepsen, and Olsen families, Brian will be missed by all who knew him including his extended family. Preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ellen (nee Hooper); siblings, Thomas (surviving sister-in-law Barbara) and Margaret (Ole) Olsen; brother-in-law, Jens Jepsen; and great-niece, Amanda Peat.

After winning a cutest baby contest, with a rather large trophy to prove it, Brian grew up to be a man with an adventurous, inquisitive and thoughtful spirit, and there was a world of depth to him. Some of his fondest memories were from his travels; including his trip to England where his father was born, and the times he spent working as a surveyor in Australia and the South Pacific. He was a voracious reader with a love for mysteries and a keen interest in history and politics. As such, he was very knowledgeable and always an engaging conversationalist who enjoyed a lively debate now and again, and who never hesitated to inject his wonderfully wry sense of humour. He enjoyed a good old-fashioned Western film, listening to an eclectic array of music, and rarely turned down a game of Scrabble or a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup.

Our hearts are broken by the loss of this kind-hearted, intelligent and generous man who enriched our lives in so many ways. The world was a better place with him in it.

Cremation has taken place at Pleasantview Funeral Home & Cemetery. There will be no formal service. A private family gathering will be held at a future date.

Brian was my best friend growing up. Something happened in the 1980's and Brian never spoke to me again. I don't know why he spurned me but I'm so sorry he is gone.

I had the pleasure of working with Brian delivering for the pharmacy. He was direct and honest. A real gentleman. My condolences to his family.

So many fond memories of a wonderful uncle. I will always remember his smile and laugh and the many times he would join in the kids games. Fred remembers the intellectual and interesting conversations he would have with Brian. Mom (Barb) has so many great memories with Brian. He was always hiding from the camera...but I found a few to share. We will love you and miss you always. Niece Dianne and Fred xoxo
