Bruce O'Grady Obituary

It's with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we share with you the passing of loving husband, brother and father, Bruce William John O'Grady. On Thursday, March 18, 2021 at the age of 66, Bruce left our world after a hard-fought battle with COVID-19. Bruce leaves behind his wife and best friend, Rosemary O'Grady (née Lesko) to whom he was married for nearly 43 years, and who he loved for much longer. His sons Kyle (Claire) and Sean (Anastasia) will forever cherish the time they had with him. Bruce is predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Eva (née LaRue) and brother Bryan (Sandra (John Amiss)) O'Grady. Bruce is survived by siblings Sharon and Ralph O'Grady (Laurie). Bruce will be remembered fondly by his nieces and nephews Christine Repar (Mike), Melissa O'Reagan (Wayne), Colleen O'Grady (Heinrich), Derrick Amiss (Daniel), Charles Amiss (Tracey), Allison Moyer (John), Bryan Moyer, Jocelyne Moyer (Cory), Lauren Moyer, Kaitlyn Michaud (Vance), and his brother-in-law Dan Moyer. Bruce dearly loved his 10 great-nieces and nephews. Dad will be remembered for his enthusiasm and zest for life, his infectious laughter, his love for the game of hockey, a fascination with wildlife, and above all else; being a dedicated family man. While our time with Dad was nowhere near long enough, he will live on in our hearts, minds, memories and who his two sons have become. The O'Grady family would like to express our deepest appreciation to the outpouring of support from family, friends and the community but would like to specifically acknowledge and thank Sharon O'Grady, Brian Nesbitt, Pat and Ed Bogucki, Kathy Stevenett, and the staff of Quaker Road Public School. We would also like to express our gratitude to the health care professionals at St. Catharine's General Hospital, who are truly heroes for defending the front lines of public health and safety. "You're the loveliest group of people, who we wish we never had to meet." In lieu of flowers, donations in Bruce's memory can be made to conservation and research of the wolves of Algonquin Provincial Park by contacting the Friends of Algonquin Park at: https://www.algonquinpark.on.ca/foap/donate/ In the comments section, please specify "Funds to be directed to wolf conservation and research, in memory of Bruce O'Grady". Due to the current social climate, a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Sleep easy Dad, we love you.

Condolences to Rosemary and the O’Grady family. Long ago fond memories of Price Ave kids playing hide n seek, kick the can, ball hockey on the street, then home at dark. Bruce was fun loving, full of energy, kind and a good pal. Regards to Rosemary from Tom Brooks, Cathy’s brother and another redhead, just like the O’Gradys.

So many memories Ogar. Numerous trips to the rink in Hugh’s Big Chev or Geo’s Olds Super 88 to bring life to the ice together from Squirt thru Bantam. The street hockey games on Barron, ball hockey at JC Bald, football, baseball, pond hockey plus the miscellaneous shenanigans at Chippewa Park, summertime swims at the aqueduct, last minute road trips to camp in the north country. Your infectious smile and robust laughter will be with me forever. Rest In Peace my very good friend til we meet again. Roe, my heart goes out to you along with deepest condolences as you and your loved ones greave your loss.

I grew up playing hockey with Bruce on teams representing Welland from 8 yrs of age to about 15, when his speed and skill took him to the OHL. He was an excellent player and teammate. I would like to be contacted when a date is confirmed for a memorial service.

I'll always remember him with his big smile . He loved people and helping out when ever he could. He coached kids with WMHA that no one else wanted to deal with. My family had the pleasure of buying a couple cars from him and feeling that we always overpaid but didn't care because he made it fun. He loved the sales while Briggsy loved to be out on manoeuvres. Classic PMP. Very proud of his work in the backyard, the pond, fountain and the flowers. RIP Red, we're going to miss you.

A good salesman a pleasure to work with as was his brother Ralph. We are so sorry to hear of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Peter and Lynn Hubbard

Rosemary, Kyle and Sean, we are so sorry to hear this. We will never forget the good times with Bruce coaching our son in hockey. He was lucky to have Bruce, and we will fondly remember the tournaments, especially Lake Placid. It almost makes up for how afraid of him I was when he was a lifeguard at Cross Street Pool. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our hearts go out to you.

Bruce was a force of nature and I can hear his great laugh and see that wonderful grin that made me feel happy whenever I saw or spoke to him. The love he held for his family was always evident and he said, just like Sharon does, that their parents ‘fell from Heaven”.
Sharon, Rosemary and Ralph, words cannot adequately describe how profoundly sorry I am knowing that Bruce is gone. He was a good man and he will be missed. It was a genuine honour to know him.
