Daniel TONG Obituary
It is with a heavy heart and a profound sense of loss that we announce the tragic passing of Daniel Shao-Kwong Tong in a car accident at the young age of 32. Daniel's memory and legacy continue to be carried in the hearts of his loving wife, Melanie, and their two beautiful children, Olivia (7) and Atlas (4). Daniel and his twin brother, Simon, were born on October 1, 1990, to Joanne and Wally Tong, growing up in a loving household with his older sisters Jennifer (Jason, Jasmine and Jackson), Lisa (Tam, Sierra and Avery), Teresa (Alex, Lucas and Leah) and Jessica (Mike, and Matthew). He is further survived by his grandmother Foon Ngan Tong, many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as Melanie's family, who welcomed him like a son. He joins his ancestors, Duck Ying Tong, Fook Yin Lee, and Lowe Ho Lee. Daniel was a warm, loving and family-oriented dad, son, brother, and friend to many. Sometimes quiet and often the calm in the storm, he was always there with an ear, a smile and a chuckle. He will be missed dearly by many. Daniel was also a renowned and passionate chef, honing his artistry in some of the finest restaurants in southern Ontario. His culinary vision and leadership in the kitchen were recognized by many throughout his career, most recently at Ruffino's in Niagara-On-The-Lake where he dedicated his professional time to his passion for fine food. As much as he loved his job, Dan recently took a significant step back from the kitchen, planning to spend more time with those who were most important to him: his kids and family. The family welcomes all those who wish to honour his memory on Thursday, January 26th from 5 - 9 p.m. for visitation at PLEASANTVIEW FUNERAL HOME (2000 Merrittiville Hwy at the corner of Hwy 20) A service to celebrate his life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, January 27th at 1:00 p.m. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Dan was a talented chef - a true artist at his craft. I had been lucky enough to have sat at the chef's table at the restaurant where he worked and it was amazing to watch him work. Focused. He was also a very kind and generous soul. He worked with my son, Finn and was such a kind person to Finn. Our hearts are broken for all of Dan's family and friends.
