David PAYNE Obituary

In his 77th year, after a valiant battle with cancer, died peacefully on Monday, December 28, 2020. He will be dearly missed by his devoted wife, Diana, of 53 years. He is survived by his two sons: Bryan (Nadia) and Philip. Dear Grandad to the apples of his eye, Ariana and Symon. Survived by his brother Alex (the late Alma). He will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, long time friends and extended family. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the nurses at Hospice Niagara, who took loving care of our dear David. David was a generous, hard working man who had the ability to walk into a room full of strangers and leave having made new friends. He adored his wife, his family and his Krown "family". His dedication to building a legacy in the business community spanned 28 years; an accomplishment in which he took great pride. Upon learning of his terminal sickness, David knew his life would end but his hope would not. He kept the words at John 5:28, 29 close to his heart; knowing fully that we will see him again and our separation is only temporary. For those who knew and loved him, David's cheeky smile and sparkling blue eyes will be deeply missed. "My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man, I'm just a living legacy to the Leader of the band" Cremation has already taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca

My Father in Law had the most brilliant blue eyes. Even as his sickness progressed they never ceased to sparkle. I was always jealous of them and hoped that one of our children would be so fortunate as to inherit them. That didn’t happen; they both have brown eyes. What our children did inherit from their Grandad was a strong work ethic, a keen sense of right and wrong and a love for salted apples. There was always a salted apple to be shared whenever Grandad was around. His blue eyes would light up when the grandchildren wanted to share one. I’ll miss those blue eyes the most.
