Donald ANSLOW Obituary

It is with deep sadness and broken hearts, we announce the sudden passing of Don on February 4, 2022, at Niagara Falls General Hospital in his 87th year. Fun-loving husband to Gladys for 65 years. Loving father to Richard (and pre-deceased by Richard's children's mother Cynthia), Donna (Bill) Hunter, pre-deceased by Richard's twin brother at birth. Cherished grandfather of Jessie (Mckaila), Alicia (Tylor), Aaron, Zachary Anslow and Billy, Jennie (Jason Gaines). Proud great grandfather of Benjamin and Baby Anslow on route, and Ava Gaines. Don is also survived by his brothers Robert (Natalie) of Calgary, Ernie (Ylonde) Of Milton and pre-deceased by his parents Doris and Gordon Anslow, and step-father Andrew Dupuis, sister Irene and loving mother-in-law Flossie and John Dunlop. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces and nephews. Don was a 30-year employee at the Ford Glass Plant, there he was affectionately known as "the Colonel" and retired at 55. Enjoyed many days on his ham radio, affectionately known as VE3 BIU. He was fluent in Morse Code because Don always said, "a real Ham should know Morse Code". Don served his country as a paratrooper during peace time in Germany and England. He was also guard for prince Philip during the 1950's due to his height. Don's family would like to thank EMS, NFFD, GNGH - ER Department, Dr. Doyle, nurses and support staff, Ornge Ambulance, doctors and nurses at Joseph Brant Hospital, NF-ICU, GNGH clergy staff Nathan for his prayers said over Don, nurse Elaine for her compassion and support. Gladys would like to say a big thank you to her neighbors the McGowans and Oliver families. Everyone was there for us at this difficult time. Arrangements have been entrusted to MORSE & SON Funeral Home, 5917 Main St. Niagara Falls. As per Donald's wishes cremation has taken place. The Anslow family will be having a spring interment at Lundy's Lane Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Don's family would appreciate donations to Niagara Support Services for those with intellectual disabilities. In Memory of Don please remember to do an act of kindness for one another.

I met Don when i was about 12 or 13 on the "Charles Bronson Band" i would ride my bike down too his house and watch him work the world on cw on his Drake TR4cw, he gave me his license study guide so i could get my ticket. I have never met a ham that loved amateur radio as much as the "BIU"did. He would come by my work at least a couple of times a month either walking or riding his bike too chew the rag, sometimes he would open the door too the shop and call me by my call sign in code, we would than have a conversation in cw between the two of us all the guys in the shop were flabergasted...Don was a big man with a big heart every one loved him and so quick witted. Condolences too his family. Rip my friend VE3BIU de VE3BEE dit dit dit dah di dah

My deepest sympathy to Auntie Gladys, cousins Donna and Rick and your entire large and growing family. I was saddened to hear of the passing of Uncle Don. I came to know and love Uncle Don through the many stories told by Don's brothers my Dad (Bob) and my Uncle Ernie with the affection and humour they always shared with Uncle Don. He will no doubt live on in these cherished stories.

We are all truly saddened to hear of Don's passing, he was a great friend to so many on our ham bands around the world. He was always there to listen and returned with great conversations. Always there to help when another ham needed antenna work or help. His key has gone silent and will be forever missed. Our hobby has lost one of the finest. Our sincere condolences to Gladys and Don's family.
