Edwin Ball Obituary

May 11, 1930 - September 27, 2022

Ted was born in the front bedroom of his parents' home on Frederica Street in Niagara Falls and passed away just a few blocks from there at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. He was the first of his family to go to university, graduating from McMaster University with a B.A. in French and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education with a High School teaching certificate. He later achieved his English Specialist and Guidance Specialist accreditations. Ted taught at Wallaceburg High School, was on the first staff of A.N. Myer, but spent most of his teaching career at Stamford Collegiate, the school which he attended, ultimately ending his career as the Head of the Guidance Department. In 1953 Ted married his high school sweetheart Margaret Louise (Peggy) Gibbs, who he met in the school choir. In 1955 they welcomed their daughter Susan Margaret. Three years later their son, David James was born and died in infancy. Ted was an excellent amateur photographer. A long-time member and Past President of the Niagara Falls Camera Club. He was one of the first two appointed Lay Readers in the Diocese of Niagara. He credited his longevity to curling, golf and his daily word search puzzles. Ted loved to travel especially to Cornwall, England, where his father was born, and Ted was a past member of the Toronto Cornish Society. He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Winifred, his wife Peggy, son David, his sisters Evelyn Audrey and Marion. Ted is survived by his daughter Susan (David), grandchildren Trevor (Shannan) and Victoria (Chris); as well as his great-grandchildren, Tiernan, Rowan, Ainsley, and Bryce Edwin. He loved animals and will be missed by his family's furry friend Mocha. The family would like to give special thanks to Nicole, Carleigh, and the staff on Brock Unit, for their kindness and caring. Arrangements have been entrusted to MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls. According to Ted's wishes cremation has taken place to be followed by a private inurnment at St. John's Columbarium. For those wishing to donate in Ted's memory, donations towards the Lincoln County Humane Society or a charity of your preference, would be deeply appreciated. Mr Ball was a Guidance Counsellor at Stamford Collegiate when I attended there as a young student.
He was the one person who convinced me in my final year (1973) not to quit school. Something I was struggling with, trying to understand and not able to share with others.
He was the one person who understood.
Thank you Mr. Ball.
When you pass through the gates into your beautiful new home may you be surrounded and greeted by all those you have missed who have gone before you. Godspeed Mr. Ball
