Frank Hilbing Obituary
Passed away peacefully in his sleep at Rapelje Lodge in Welland, at the age of 89. He is survived by his
loving wife Mary (nee Durliat), and his four children and 13 grandchildren. Mathew (Anna) with Loretta,
Domenic, Maria, and Michael. John (Allison) with Nicholas, Brady, Ceara, and Mackenzie. Mary Ann
(Jonathan) with Landon, Ethan, and Grayson. Joe (late Melissa) with Josh and Aaron. Frank was born in
Vreden, Germany and came to Canada in 1956. Predeceased by his parents, Heinrich and Maria Hilbing,
his brothers Gerard and John, and sisters Gertrude, Anna, Maria, Elizabeth, and Hedwig. Survived by his
sister-in-law Christine.
Frank was always interested in soccer, having played for many years, for Club Heidelberg in St.
Catharines and Club Rheingold in Port Colborne, as well as coaching many teams. He started minor
soccer in Wainfleet in the late 1970, with 40 children and today more than 400 youngsters are playing a
couple nights a week in the summer. Frank will be lovingly remembered by his family and by the many
people in the community who knew him.
Thank you to the staff on House 300 at Rapelje Lodge for their love and care of Frank over the last 3
years.
The family will receive friends at the JJ Patterson Funeral Home on Young St in Welland on Monday, January 2 from 2-4 and 6-8. A Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Church in Wainfleet on Tuesday, January 3 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery on Smith St in Wainfleet.

I wish to say Thanks Coach for teaching us the game of soccer. My brothers and I were young teenagers when we joined Club Reingold and Fr as no was our first coach
We played for him for years and greatly appreciated this opportunity.
I remember when he had us over to his house for a corn roast and to introduce his new bride.

Frank was a true friend and fellow farmer to my Father Ferdinand (Fred) and myself
His passion for soccer as a player and a coach is is unsurpassed. He took a young hockey player who thought he knew everything and made him a proud soccer player who loved the game... impacted my life .. Thanks Frank

Mary, Matt, John, Joe and MaryAnn:
We can attest that Frank Hilbing was a fervent, practising Catholic. We often chatted and got caught-up after mass on Sundays at St.Elizabeth church. We will miss your smile and warm thoughts, Frank. We know that you were a hard worker and gave back to the community through soccer. Congratulations on a life well-lived. Rest in peace, Frank.

I've always been thankful for meeting Frank as a teenager. He took a number of us under his wing as a soccer coach for Club Rheingold. He was a great coach but even a better human being. He led by example teaching us to be good sports and to treat everyone with decency and respect.
