Gary DUNBAR Obituary

DUNBAR, Gary Saunders October 31, 1934 - March 26, 2019 Gary passed away peacefully at GNGH surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Joyce (Passmore) for almost 56 years, amazing father to Alan (Anne) and Jennifer Baseggio (Rob) and wonderful grandfather to Haley, Lauren, Nolan and Ben. Lovingly survived by brother Fred (Helen), brother-in-law Ted (Lynn) Passmore and sisters-in-law Joanne (Passmore) Waters and Marlene Dunbar and caring uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sister Joanne Pearce (Don), twin brother Laurie, and sister-in-law Sandy (Passmore) Bingham. Gary was born in Woodstock, New Brunswick and moved to Brantford, Ontario during his high school years. After meeting the love of his life in Toronto, they settled in Fonthill and eventually Niagara Falls in the 1960's. Gary was a dedicated and caring probation and parole officer for 30 years. He spent a number of years volunteering with Big Brothers and enjoyed golf, racquetball and curling, but he shined as a supportive husband, father and grandfather watching his children and then grandchildren play hockey, soccer and dance. With Joyce, Gary was a great supporter of St. Andrew's United Church and enjoyed travelling, playing bridge and gathering with their many friends. The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Drew Girard, the staff at Meadows of Dorchester and the ICU of GNGH for their exceptional care. Gary is resting at Morse & Son Funeral Home , 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 29th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A service will be held at St. Andrew's United Church, 5645 Morrison Street, Niagara Falls, on Saturday, March 30th at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gary's memory to St. Andrew's United Church or Project SHARE of Niagara Falls would be gratefully appreciated.
