Glyn MOORE Obituary

On the morning of Monday March 8, 2021, on his 70th Birthday, Glyn Moore finished his last squat. Glyn is survived by Marlene, his loving wife of 25 years, dear father of Nicole (Andy) and Andrea. Beloved "Grandad" to Corey and Ella. Youngest brother to Barry and predeceased by John (Elaine). Brother-in-law of William (Laura) and Catherine. Uncle of Kevin (Angie), Stephen and Dean (Caroline), LeeAnn (Steve) and Calvin. Great Uncle of Brennan, and son-in-law to Jean Manley. Glyn will be profoundly missed by Steve Magistrale who considered Glyn his mentor, best friend and father-figure. Predeceased by parents Percy and Mary. Glyn was proudly born and raised in North Wales and immigrated to Canada in 1977. He settled in St. Catharines, working many years as a welder for General Motors where he made many life-long friends including Wayne, Rob, Hans and Vern. He remained close with his childhood friends Ian and Roy. A true powerlifting competitor and legend, Glyn passed away the way he had always joked about, with a good lift under his belt and still wearing his lifting gear. To those that knew him, the name Glyn Moore is synonymous with powerlifting, his raw passion for the sport obvious in everything he did. He contributed endlessly as a competitor, meet director, volunteer, official, coach, mentor, promotor, and recruiter, not to mention his many formulas, custom equipment, and his famous quick wit. He loved to reminisce about good times with friends and was the first to remind everyone of a friend or fellow lifter's achievements. He had a memory to be envied, remembering records, dates, people, and could tell you exactly where he was and what he was doing when just about any song came out. With a boyish grin and Welsh music in his blood, he could always be heard humming or singing a tune. Glyn will never know how many lives he touched, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family has asked that if anyone is so moved, they may wish to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Glyn's memory." In honouring Glyn's wishes cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144. Online condolences may be made at CCBSCares.ca

I had the great pleasure of working with Glyn at General Motors for many years until his retirement. It's with great sadness that I hear of his passing. Many great memories of conversations and I was always excited to hear his reports from the last powerlifting meet. He was a true gentleman! My Sincere condolences to his family.

Glyn was a very considerate and humorous individual that I had the pleasure to know at G.M. On occasion we would bump into each other at Tims on Lake Street. I last talked to him just a few days before he passed away. We were at Home Depot and were looking forward to the day that our group breakfasts would resume. Will be missed !!
My sincere condolences to the family on the loss of a great person.

My deepest condolences to Glyn's family. I met Glyn at GM and we became friends instantly. He was a man who loved his family deeply, was accomplished in so many other talents ... woodworking, gardening and of course his love of weight lifting. I'll miss his sense of humour ... Last time we saw each other was a chance meeting at HOMESTEADS ... You will be missed by many. RIP

I knew Glyn for many years from both GM and the gym. What a wonderful guy. Brilliant sense of humor, always laughing. I had a coffee and a nice chat with him just recently. I am shocked and saddened on hearing of his passing. My deepest condolences to Marlene and the rest of Glyn's family.

It was a pleasure to be aquatinted with Glyn through the St. Catharines YMCA. He was always helpful and a mentor to many in the fitness community regardless of ability. I always enjoyed seeing him and his friendly group of powerlifters on Saturday mornings. Condolences to his friends and family.
