Gregory BAILEY Obituary

Peacefully, on Friday November 19, 2021 our dear Greg passed, ending a thirty year battle with Parkinson's. Greg was predeceased by his brother Robert Malcolm Bailey and leaves behind his wife Babette, daughter Dayna (Adam), son Alexander (Virginia), three grandchildren Ethan, Heidi and Oliver, sister Olive (Franz) and brother George (Ellen) and many nieces and nephews. Greg was dearly loved by his family and friends. Greg was the son of Emanuel and Violet Bailey, born on July 30, 1952 in Niagara Falls. He graduated From Canadore College in 1976 as a commercial helicopter pilot. He then began his adventures in many remote areas of western Canada and the high arctic. Greg had achieved Class One Helicopter Instructor early in his career, training pilots across the country and locally at Niagara Helicopters - that's where he taught Superman to fly! His career in aviation included a position as Airports Officer, Keewatin Region NWT (now Kivalliq Nunavut, and Ft. Smith region NWT,) and manager of the Niagara District Airport!
Greg graduated from Guelph University in 1990 and shortly after became the manager of The Winter Festival of Lights, and equally glamorous and exciting career. He loved working with the many, many, passionate volunteers, park and city staff, business owners, tourism professionals and affiliates. With Greg's help the festival grew to include the televised new years party in Niagara Parks, a partnership with Disney, the Night Parade, weekly fireworks, and several local events. Grounded long enough, his final preflight check is done and he is flying off on his next big adventure.

Dear Bailey family. So sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences. Greg was my helicopter instructor back in 1984. Can Du Air. My career started by Greg asking if I had time for a fam flight. 20 minutes I was hooked and signing up for lessons. I´m still flying today. Thank you Greg. You were a very kind, calm thoughtful instructor. Something I tried to emulate when I became an instructor. Great stories you shared with the class. Rest in peace.

My condolences to the family. Lost track of Greg after high school & just happened to search his name and learned of his passing. Great neighbour growing up. Strummed my guitar with Greg on the drums. Remember going to Toronto with Greg in the summer of 66 to see the Beatles - Greg won tickets 8 rows from the front. Good times together.

My condolences to you, Babette, and your family. Greg hired me in 1988 when Blanche retired from NDA. His first interview question was, could I dance (which Blanche apparently did each morning across the terminal). Greg had such a wonderful sense of humour as well as a great love of family, flying and his time in the North. May your memories be of comfort to you all.

Dear Babette, Dayna and Alexander, George and Olive
I just received a call from my sister Roberta (Burlington) followed immediately by an email from the Alpha Omega Fraternity Alumni telling me of Greg's passing. I am so deeply saddened by that news and I offer my most sincere condolences. He was a very special friend with an incredibly magnetic personality - all who knew him will feel the impact of his death. May the wonderful memories you had with him keep his spirit alive in your hearts as in mine.

Dear Babette, Dayna, Adam & Family, We are saddened by your loss of a Husband, Father, Grandpa & Friend. We met Greg at church in his declining years and watched you all guide him gently with love and patience. It has been a long journey for your family and we weep with you in your loss. His Life impacted so many people, Niagara Falls and beyond. He was a Light to others in many ways including his involvement on the Niagara Parkway. The Festival of Lights is something I have enjoyed with my grandkids & Heidi often over the years. This year will be extra special as I will think of Greg as we drive on the NF Parkway. His Legacy will remain to be a Shining Light for all to follow. May the Lord supply all of your needs thro the hearts and hands of those around you. Love, Hugs & Prayers, Terie, Trish, Sophia & Family

My condolences to Babette and family. I first met Greg when he was manager at the Niagara District Airport and I was hunting down the takeoff spot for a hot-air balloon I had seen when driving home from Niagara College. Thanks to Greg, I found the balloon and went up in it for my spring story for my journalism class.
