Heather McAUGHEY Obituary

50 of St. Catharines, passed away in her home, on April 3rd, peacefully in her sleep. Heather "Heady", cherished daughter to Janis and Dennis McAughey was born on August 17, 1972, in Toronto, Ontario. After Heather graduated from Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in 1990, she studied dental assisting at George Brown College. Upon receiving her diploma, she began working at Glendale Dental in St. Catharines as a dental assistant, kickstarting a 25-year career in dentistry. In July of 1994, Heather was married at Immanuel Baptist Church and later went on to have two children with her husband. Heather found great purpose in the experience of motherhood. She derived her utmost joy and pride primarily from her daughters, Chloe, and Maggie. Chloe and Maggie will forever hold close the memory of their mum, who they remember as their fierce advocate and someone who they could confide in for guidance without judgement, no matter the issue. Heather was a beloved big sister to Shannon (Cahal) Crummey who is heartbroken by her passing and will deeply miss and cherish their time spent together. To Shannon and Cahal's daughters, Irelynn and Callyn, Heather will be remembered as their fun-loving Auntie Heady. Janis, Heather's mother, deeply mourns the loss of her daughter and their cherished daily tea and lunch outings as Heather was not only her daughter but also her closest friend and confidante. Heather was also a special niece to Val O'Hara, who will miss her dearly and will treasure the fond memories she keeps of their trips to Val's Oliphant cottage in Heather's younger years. Heady was a woman of unique character, possessing a charismatic presence that could brighten the mood of those around her. Her magnetic personality and lively sense of humour endeared her to her many friends, who were drawn to her outgoing and gregarious nature. Heather will be especially missed by her lifelong best friends, Amy Brown, and Paula Hoenig- Williamson (Andrew). Heather was widely admired as a great mother, friend and daughter, and her positive impact on the lives of those around her was felt by many, especially the friends she made through her involvement in dental, extracurricular and vacation activities. Her warm, quirky, compassionate nature, and unwavering generosity to her loved ones and community will be remembered. An intimate service will be held at GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., on Tuesday, April 11th in St. Catharines. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Quest Community Health Centre, an organization Heather had most recently worked with and felt passionate about.

Heather was my beautiful, spunky, funny, caring niece!
She spend many, many hours over her lifetime with me at my cottage, Florida home, spending time with my after her divorce in my apartment at her parents home and living with me and my husband during her education in Toronto.

I loved ( and love) her so very much. My heart is breaking and I don´t know when it will ever heal but I will try to continue to be strong for her parents and sister and children. Her memory will be with us forever!

Heather and Shannon were the first two children to sign up for the St Denis Church children´s choir, and stayed to sing for several years. I had the immense privilege of being their director and guitarist, and you couldn´t ask for two nicer young ladies. I´ve never forgotten them. My deepest condolences to her parents, Jan and Dennis, to Shannon, and to Heather´s daughters. Such a heartbreaking loss.

It was with shock and sadness that I read Heather´s obituary. We worked together years ago on the Glendale Dental team, and I remember how she could light up a room with her stories and antics. She was also incredibly caring and professional as she worked chairside with her patients.

Love and grief live side by side; sending my deepest condolences to Dennis, Janis, and the rest of Heather´s cherished family.

I am planting a tree in Heathers memory in my front yard. She was a wonderful free spirit that lit up the room as soon as she walked into any room.
