Passed away peacefully at the Villa de Rose Retirement Residence, Welland, Ontario on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at the age of 93. Born January 23, 1929 in Cornwall, Ontario, she was the daughter of Emile Leger (1903-1972) and Juliette Belanger (1910-1962). Imelda was the beloved wife of the late Harold Thomas Bickerstaffe (1930-2005) and mother of the late Marc Anthony Bickerstaffe (1953-2007). She is survived by her sisters in-law, Denise Leger, Annette Bickerstaffe, Marlene Bickerstaffe, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister, Jeannine (1930-1931) and brother, Jean Maurice (1944-2017). Imelda and Harold were married in Cornwall, Ontario on June 16, 1951. They moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario in the early 1960's where she accepted a position as the Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Oneida Canada and eventually retired as the Executive Assistant to the President. Imelda was a kind and caring person who supported various charities throughout her life. She lived independently until the spring of 2022, when she moved to the Villa de Rose Retirement Residence. In her short stay, she made new friends not only with the residents but with many of the staff who dropped in regularly to check in on her or simply to chat. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Julie Lum, the management and staff of Villa de Rose Retirement Residence, the Home Care Community Support Services (HCCSS), St. Elizabeth Health, the CPER Hamilton Health Sciences and Harmony Care Services Inc. At Imelda's request, cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, October 14, 2022 at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church (4673 Victoria Street, Niagara Falls). Friends and family are invited to gather 30 minutes prior at the church. The Rite of Committal will follow at Fairview Mausoleum, where Imelda will be reunited with her beloved husband and son.
