Jacob HIEBERT Obituary

Jacob Frank Hiebert of Niagara Falls, Ontario passed from us on April 11, 2022 after a long struggle with several consequential health issues related to surviving cancer.
A bright and beautiful light has left this world, in the person of Jake Hiebert, a man of great spirit, exemplary character, dogged determination and excellent humour. He was a devoted husband, a dedicated father and grandfather, a highly respected member of his community and his church, a man of the soil and a man of business, a public servant, a talented artist, a charismatic, fun-loving individual and a true maverick who lived life entirely on his own terms.
Jake was born on December 6, 1935 to Frank Henry (Franz Heinrich) and Katharina (Goer) Hiebert in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was the youngest of 16 children, all of whom endured the harsh conditions of the Great Depression on the Prairie. As a young adult he moved to the Niagara Region, where he met and married his wife and life-long partner, Amelia (Amy) Julia Morhach. They settled in St. Catharines, and became active members of Grace Mennonite Church. Eventually the two took on the challenge of building a farm from the ground up, on a beautiful plot of land in the outskirts of Niagara Falls. Jake also refurbished the vending business started by his in-laws, and hence became known as the beloved 'Chip Man', where he and Amy prepared and sold what some still consider to be the best french-fries in the country.
Jake lived out the rest of his life, supremely contented with raising his children, working the farm and cooking up french-fried potatoes from inside a vintage box-top Chev in downtown Niagara Falls. He also enjoyed hunting big game, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Blue Jays, and all sorts of music. He directed the men's chorus at the local Lions Club for several years to honour those members who had passed. All who knew him were sure to love and admire him.
Jake is survived by his loving wife, his two daughters Schelley Ann and Paula Marie, and his two sons Andrew Jacob, and David John, as well as grandchildren Jacob Robin, Taylor Ann, and Hope Amelia Joan, and several nieces and nephews sprinkled across Canada. He has one surviving sibling, Sarah Friesen. He is predeceased by grandson Nathanael James and many brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held at Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main Street in Niagara Falls on April 24, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 p.m. Visitors must be fully vaccinated and masks will be appreciated.

Dear Mrs. Hiebert and Family, We were so very saddened to learn of Mr. Hiebert's passing. Uniforms with the name Jake's Chip Wagon have been worn by our players for decades as your family have been such long time sponsors of our league. We remember his visits to the diamonds just to watch the teams play ( he always requested a schedule for each season). We always looked forward to our end of the year banquet where you would both attend. Such true community supporter. Sending our deepest condolences. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Sending love to the entire family. Jake was such a wonderful man. My grandfather Ralph worked alongside him many years, and I remember spending a lot of time at the chip wagon with both of them. Take care, and reminisce in the fond memories youve shared.

I am so very sorry to hear of Jake's passing. I worked at Niagara Medical Group until I moved out of town and enjoyed Jake's chips from time to time. They were as good as they were when I was down there on Thurday evenings as a teen. My deepest sympathy
