I was lucky enough to live next to Jimmy and Helen for a few years when my wife and I bought our first home in 2016. Jimmy always had a smile on his face. He and Helen were both fantastic people and amazing neighbours. I am lucky I had the opportunity to know such a wonderful couple. Rest in Peace Jimmy. Scott, Aly and Harper Fair.

To the children of Jim and Helen,
On behalf of our family We want to send our sincere sympathy. Growing up on Lowell Ave. We knew the Adams Family and then Jim Rutherford . It was always a pleasure to run into the family and we were always greeted with a smile & a hug once it was sorted as to which one of Bill & Matties Gang we were. At your mom's ( Helen's) visitation I recall the joy and happiness Jim expressed to my sister Mary and I.
A smiling happy man who made you feel good any time you met .

Dear Margaret, Ruth, Chuck, Jamie and families,
We are so very saddened to hear of Jim's passing but what wonderful, happy memories we hold of him and Helen;
The laughs we shared together during rehearsals and performances in GCP shows and the fun get togethers at their home after a rehearsal.
Jim was an inspiring talent to watch on stage too.
Beautiful memories we will always cherish!
With our love and deepest heartfelt condolences,

I worked at Victoria School for 7 years where Jim was caretaker—and a meticulous one at that . His standards for cleaning an old school surpassed all caretakers that I encountered . His party personality was fun and his singing was always entertainment. Sincere condolences to the family. Sincerely —Wanda Vincent

I was a principal at Victoria School for several happy years. Jim was like another teacherkeeping eyes on all, and yes, singing. The students really respected him. Jim helped me in so many ways. He was truly one of the good guys.

I first met Jim in 1978 when we performed together in Oliver! with Garden City Productions; he was Fagin and I was The Artful Dodger. He had performed in many GCP shows before this one; it was just my second. We became great friends and performed together many times but nothing compared to the magic of his Fagin and my Dodger.
My sincere condolences to Jamie and the entire family.

I have so many great memories of Jim from the time I was doing shows with Garden City Productions. I was a very green, aspiring young actor, while Jim was a gifted, skilled and accomplished performer. I admired him greatly.
I would watch and study Jim, as well as Jack Katzman, Barb Gosen and Maggie Payne. They all provided me with amazing lessons in theatre craft that have stayed with me through the years.
And I recently played the role of Pilate in Jesus Christ Superstar, a role that Jim performed brilliantly for GCP back in 1982. I thought of Jim and his performance many times while I was in rehearsals. Many elements of his interpretation made their way in to my performance - so, in a way, Jim once again mentored and shared the stage with me.
As well, Jim was always very kind and generous to me, both on stage and off, as was his lovely wife Helen.
My condolences to the family.

I have very fond memories of Mr. Rutherford. I attended Victoria school, starting with Kindergarten in 1967. I remember the wonderful ice rinks that he made us every year. He helped me tighten my skates every day. He even seemed to be there on weekends, sometimes with hot chocolate. I remember him as being so kind and always happy, everyone’s Grandpa. I speak of him often whenever the topic of “when I went to school...” comes up. So sorry for your loss of a great man.

My son and daughter attended Victoria School, he was the caretaker there. Making the ice rinks in winter and the hockey sticks patio loungers. Truly a very nice man. My sincere condolences to his family.
