Jane Carolyn Haist passed away at the Douglas Memorial Hospital on Saturday May 21, 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. Jane is survived by her mother, Dorothy and brother, Gary ( Carolyn), step children and grand children in Tennessee, and will be missed by her many friends in the community and around the world. Predeceased by her father Harold (2017). Jane was a member of the Canadian Track & Field Team and represented Canada in the Montreal '76 Olympics. During her career in sports, she represented her high school track & field team and went on to compete around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Israel, Mexico, The Ukraine, Sweden, Norway, the United States, Great Britain, and many more. In 1974 she competed in the Commonwealth Games in New Zealand and won Gold Medals in Women's Shot Put and Discus. In 1975, she won a Bronze Medal at the Pan American Games in Mexico City. She also competed at the University of Tennessee from 1977-1979 and was an All-American in 1977 & 1978, winning the AIAW National Championship in Discus. In her first year she tossed a collegiate record in discus that still stands at the University of Tennessee. Special thanks to Dr. Scher, the nursing staff, and support staff for their care in making Jane's last days comfortable. Thanks to Lampman Funeral Home for their care and support. Cremation has taken place and a private family internment will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Olympic Committee would be appreciated by the family.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Jane. As a fellow Canadian at the University of Tennessee, Jane was like an older sister to me. I remember her kindness and positive words as I navigated my way as a young track and field athlete far away from home. Some people leave a lasting memory and touch your heart. My deepest condolences to the family.

My sincerest sympathy to Jane's family. I attended Elementary with Jane and my siblings attended Secondary School with her. We were all proud to know her and proud of her athletic awards. Jane was pretty, smart, talented and the nicest girl whom we all enjoyed in Pelham. Jane's smile was real. She will always be remembered.

I remember Jane as a classmate at Pelham Corners School. She was not only great in sports but she also had a wonderful voice. She represented our school in singing competitions.

Jane was a humble person and kind to everyone.

My deepest sympathies to Jane's family and friends.
"Rest in peace dear friend."

I worked with Jane at a pizza place in Knoxville in the early 80s. While I knew she had participated in the 76 Olympics, I didn't realize how accomplished she was. She was a humble person a and I really enjoyed working with her. A funny story from that time, I cut my thumb and required stitches so she drove me to the ER. As I was getting out of the car, she picked me up in her arms and carried me into the hospital yelling "This boy has cut his thumb off we need a Doctor". I was a 19 year old 200 lb young man and somewhat embarrassed by the whole situation but that was Jane just being Jane. Condolences to the family. RIP Jane.

Along with Martha Flagg (coach) and others, I was one of Jane's teachers at Pelham district High School. We were just so proud to follow her career and successes as our 'home-town heroine'. In recent years we were happy to see Jane regularly in her place at Pelham Community Church on Sunday mornings. We will all miss her sunny smile. J. Morgan

A beautiful, talented, kind and friendly person. I admired Jane´s talent in high school and she set the bar high for all of us who enjoyed shotput and discus. She was always helpful on the field too.
I had the pleasure of reconnecting with Jane when she moved back to Fenwick after her travels. She will be missed by many. May she Rest In Peace. My sincere condolences to Jane´s family and friends.
