Joan Herberta Somers

of Port Colborne passed away peacefully at Woodlands of Sunset on July 21, 2022, at the age of 86. Beloved wife of William Sr. (Bill), devoted mother to Michael Somers (Sandy), Timothy Somers and Wendy Anne Somers. Predeceased by son William "Billy" Somers Jr. (Brenda) in 2021. Dear grandmother of Shaun Somers (Nicole), Bradley Somers and Lisa Ng (Stephanie), Tara Gauthier and Tim Gauthier (Jody) and great-grandma of Lucas, William, Fraser, Henry Austin, Emma, Keira and Eve. Loving sister to Herbert "Bud" Fraser Jr. and Colleen "Susie" MacDonald (Parker). "Autie Joan" will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her father Herbert Fraser Sr., mother Dorothy and sister Beverly. Joan was somewhat ahead of her time when she began working full-time as a cost accountant at what was then Herb Fraser& Associates in 1969 until 1983. She was employed at Canada Forgings Inc. and then worked at Lundy Steel until her retirement in 1993. Joan was an extremely thoughtful person, never forgetting to send birthday cards or get-well wishes. She was an avid animal lover, always welcoming the many stray cats brought home by her daughter and was a loving dog 'mom' to Holly, Daisy, and Baxter. In Life we loved you dearly. In death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place no one else will ever fill. Joan's family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Monday July 25, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday July 26, 2022, at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 123 King Street, Port Colborne at 11:00 a.m. with Father Wesley Woloszyn as celebrant. Rite of Committal at Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to Niagara SPCA.
