Dear Joan -- and all in your family: With profound sorrow and regret I have learned of the going from our midst into life eternal of your John. Sorrow at such a great loss for you, certainly, and yes for me, too -- as I enjoyed his friendship through the years, from my time at Our Lady of the Scapular and since. We did many "extracurricular" things like enjoying a game of golf and sharing a meal or two in his home. He was a truly gracious man who added immeasurably to the life of his parish community and the community at large. I regret that I could not be with him, and you his family, at the time of his dying, nor could I be present at his funeral. Simply put, I am so much needed here in Niagara-on-the-Lake that I cannot possibly go elsewhere at this time. Yes, it pains me enormously to have to say this, but I pray for your understanding. This route is not of my choosing. Even the secretaries here are urging me to "curtail" my activities. Be that as it may, I will cherish my fond memories of John, and also keep him and all of you close to my heart as you bid him a farewell. A life well lived! (Fr.) Peter Rowe
