John NOGAS Obituary

Peacefully at home on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at the age of 95. Predeceased by his beloved wife Mary (nee Urchuk) (2007). Loving father of Mike (Debbie) Nogas, (the late) Stan Nogas, David (Frances) Nogas and Sandra (Sean) Polly. Grandpa John will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Jon (Ksenia), Paul (Danielle), Georgia (Jonathan), Karen, Sara (Michael), Kevin, Adam (Lisa), Michael (Mady) and Matthew (Jessica). He is survived by his brother Fred (Val) Nogas. He will be missed by neighbours and friends, especially his companion in later life, Yvonne Kala. John was a man of integrity, intelligence, compassion and dedication to family. Born in Welland and raised in Thorold, Ontario John studied mechanical engineering at McMaster and Queen's Universities. Being detailed orientated and an avid problem solver, he became very skilled working as a mechanical designer at Acres Engineering and later at Central Engineering at the Ontario Paper Company. While his children were young, he was active coaching in Thorold Minor hockey for many years. Past president and long-time member of the Thorold Historical Society and in later years was an active member in both the Thorold Senior Centre and Dunlop Drive Centre for Older Adults. John also volunteered with the March of Dimes as well as being an active participant in the Thorold Senior's Choir. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his sense of humour, love of music and dancing, wealth of knowledge on many topics and optimistic outlook on life. John lived by the Five Pillars for Happiness: 1. Appreciate what you have 2. Devote time to friends and family 3. Feel a sense of purpose 4. Maintain an optimistic outlook 5. Live in the moment. The family will receive friends at the HAINE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 26 Ormond Street South, Thorold on Thursday from 7:00-9:00pm. Vigil Prayers will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church (21 Queen St. S., Thorold) on Friday, July 29th at 11:00 a.m. If so desired, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

I´m so sorry to learn of John´s passing. A great guy who had a passion for his family friends and his community. I can still see his never changing excited smile and laughter. He gave to our community far more then he ever received, a true Thoroldite who will be missed. I always admired his passion and intelligence but most of all his infectious smile. Rest In Peace John knowing you have made a difference in many lives
