Julian Premi Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce that Julian (Jules) Premi passed away peacefully on June 19, 2022 in his 85th year with his family by his side.
Jules is predeceased by his parents Gaetano and Mary (nee Salicco) Premi, brothers Angelo and John, and sister Loretta. Beloved husband of 60 years to Patricia (née Ross), who caught his eye as she was learning to skate at age 15 at the Port Colborne arena.
Jules is the cherished father of Sara (Woody McKaig) and Tom (Marie), and proud and adoring Grampa of Claire, Ryan, Aidan and Addy. Legendary "Uncle Jules" to Brenda and Jan Nicolichuk, David, Anne and Nora Premi, Marla Rager, Amy Miller and Desiree Ross. Big brother to sister-in-law Kathyrn Ross Miller. Step-grampa to Chris, Jenny and Beth McKaig, and former father-in-law to Chris Bortolotto (Meaghan Young).
Jules was born and lived his entire life in Port Colborne. He charmed everyone he met, from his childhood to his Delta Zeta days in the 50's and in his 54 year career as a barber. "Premi's Barbershop", first opened by Jules' father in 1921, was a Port Colborne establishment, the social and political hub of the City, known best for jokes and comradery - though many in Port Colborne received not only their first, but a lifetime of haircuts from Jules.
Jules was well known for his keen sense of humour. When he had the privilege of giving then Finance Minister Paul Martin Jr. a haircut, he took the opportunity to advise the Minister that he was running a deficit on the top of his head. Jules had an incredibly quick wit, and knew every joke ever told.
Jules was a talented woodworker, and was incredibly proud of the cedar strip canoes he lovingly crafted by hand. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved the north, camping, canoeing, fishing and grouse hunting. Jules and Patricia enjoyed travelling, and set out on many adventures together.
Jules was best known for his huge heart. His core traits of loyalty, honestly, integrity and humility defined his life.
We were incredibly blessed and are forever grateful to have had him in our lives. He was truly one of a kind.
The family wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Niagara Health System Welland Site ER and 3rd Floor, and in particular nurses Shaun, Jay and Delight, as well as to Rosemary.
The family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Friday June 24, 2022 from 2 -4 & 6 - 8 p.m.
A private family interment will take place at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a random act of kindness in memory of Jules, and perhaps a cup of coffee and a few jokes at Tim Hortons in his honour. Online photos, memories, condolences and donations may be shared at www.armstrongfuneralhome.ca

Dear Pat and Family, Please accept our deepest condolences. I have a fond memory of Jules giving Kathy and I a ride in his baby blue convertible when we were were just kids. So exciting. Jules was a much loved figure in Port and will certainly be missed.

Dear Patricia and family members of Jules.
My deepest sympathy and condolences to you.
Like many of my family members, I used to say that the fun and jokes and camaraderie of a trip to Premi's Barber Shop were worth far more than the price of a haircut. He was a very special person that I and my family will always remember.
