K. Perera Obituary
Passed away peacefully at home with his family beside him, on November 28, 2021, at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Soma. Cherished father of Sharmila (Keith) Andrews and Sujeeth Perera. Adoring grandfather of Dylan and Catherine. Brother of Cyril, Justin, Ena, and Sr. Berlinda and Sr. Amelia Perera. Francis was born in Dalugama, Sri Lanka, to parents Catherine and Jeremias Perera.
Francis and Soma met as students in Physiotherapy School in Sri Lanka. During his career as a physiotherapist, Francis provided exceptional care to many people. He studied in Australia and taught at the School of Physiotherapy in Sri Lanka. He was instrumental in opening the first rehabilitation hospital in Ragama, Sri Lanka.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Melville Perera for encouraging Francis to immigrate to Canada and join him as a physiotherapist at Greater Niagara General Hospital. After his work at GNGH, Francis opened Professional Physiotherapy and worked alongside his son Sujeeth.
Francis and Soma enjoyed growing orchids and gardening. He cherished going to the horse races with Melville. He was a poet and composed items that expressed his thoughts and his faith over the years. Francis was a man of deep faith and was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of the Scapular Catholic Church.
A special thank you to Dr. Dec and staff, Dr. Ostrowski and to the staff at LHIN for providing excellent care to Francis. An especially heartfelt thank you to PSWs Thelma, Amel and Jeff for the compassionate care they provided at his home. Sincere thanks to Kathleen Parr and family for their friendship and guidance.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Morse and Son Funeral Home. As per his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Scapular Church, 6557 Thorold Stone Road, Niagara Falls on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
Thank you to Fr. Peter Rowe, Fr. Rinchon, Fr. Paul MacNeil, and many others for their prayers and support. In memory of Francis, donations to St. Vincent De Paul at Our Lady of the Scapular Church would be deeply appreciated by his family.
