It is with broken hearts that the De Meo family announce the peaceful passing of their beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Maria passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on March 22, 2022 at the Niagara Health System in St. Catharines at the age of 86. Beloved wife of 69 years to her one and only love, Guerino. Much loved mother of Michael (Gloria), Italo (Bertha) and Anna (Mike) Vani. Adoring Nonna of Gary (Lisa), Melissa (Avi), Angela (Ben), Daniel (Laura), Danielle (Jesse) and Andrea (Bailey). Maria loved her 5 great grandchildren, Veda, Remy, Beau, Aiden, Monaco and one on the way. Exceptional sister of Angela (Giovanni) Candeloro and Anna (Alfredo) DiSpigna in Italy. She will be missed dearly by her only niece Vicky Grano and Nephew, Joe (Rosanna) De Meo here in Canada as well as many nieces and nephews in Italy. Maria was the Matriarch of our family showing us and teaching us the value and importance of family. Leaving Italy in 1961 with her husband Guerino and 2 young sons in tow, they came to St. Catharines and settled in Thorold to start a new life. A few years later she was blessed with a daughter, Anna Maria. Starting from humble beginnings, they raised a beautiful family legacy which she was very proud of. Maria's first and last thoughts everyday was "what are we eating today" and "what are we eating tomorrow". Maria was happiest when she cooked for everyone. Her Lasagna, Famous Vermouth Cake and Pizzellas will always be remembered. No one rarely left her house empty handed. Maria worried about everyone but herself and her family will never forget her for that. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses in 5B, whose exceptional care and kindness brought much comfort to Maria.
