Maria Augusta "Christina" WAINES

1969 - 2022

It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Christina (Maria) Augusta Waines on March 9, 2022, at age 52, peacefully at home, surrounded by family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born September 22, 1969 in San Fins, Portugal to proud parents Alipio and Patricia Geraldo. Forever loving wife to Ryan, and devoted mother to Ryan Jr. and Elyze. Beloved sister of Lourdes Geraldo, Adelia (Timothy) Duncan, and Linda (Ivan) Geraldo. Christina is also survived by mother and father-in-law Art and Linda Waines, and sister-in-law Jennifer (Kevin) Thomas, along with many nieces and nephews, and family dog Musky. Christina moved to Canada in 1973 and settled in Oakville with her parents and three sisters. She went on to attend Niagara College in Welland where she earned her diploma in early childhood education. She worked for A Child's World family childcare services in Niagara for many years before briefly working at McKay Public School in the Kindergarten classroom. A strong supporter of child wellbeing, Christina also volunteered to snuggle high risk babies in the NICU under the care of Family and Children's Services Niagara.
Christina and family are forever grateful for the loved ones who provided support through coffee dates, shopping trips, cooking meals, or simply lending a listening ear. There are not enough tears to cry for you. There were not enough years to hold you and love you. As a mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend, your beauty and strength defined you, and your courage inspired everyone around you. We will forever hold you in our hearts. Rest now, sweet Christina.
Christina's family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street on Sunday, March 13, 2022, from 2 - 4 p.m. & 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the Armstrong Chapel on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Roschman officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Wainfleet. Those wishing to make donations in Christina's memory, may do so to the Family and Children's Services Niagara Foundation.
