Marie BARENDS Obituary
January 7, 1920 - December 9, 2021
The Lord has come to her and given her peace. Marie went to be with her Lord and Saviour on December 9, 2021, at Shalom Manor, Grimsby in her 102nd year. Marie was predeceased by her husband Pieter (1986), her son Robert (2007), daughter Carol (2011), daughter-in-law Linda (2018) as well as all of her siblings. She is survived by six children Pieter, John (Bonnie), Gerda Misdorp, Janna White (Charles), Marie and Ed (Lori Eden), eight grandchildren Stephen Barends (Arlene), Patricia Gemmell (Jesse), Krista Copeland (Kevin), Brandon Barends (Andria), David Misdorp (Jenn), Lora Lupa, Aaron White (Deanna), Stephanie Lockhart (Don) as well as 11 great-grandchildren. She was born in Rotterdam, The Netherlands as Marie Maissan and immigrated to Canada in 1954. She spent most of her married life living in Fenwick, Ontario, raising her eight children. She faithfully attended Fenwick United Church and was active in the choir and Women's groups until she moved into Shalom Manor for care. She participated readily in all the activities provided by Shalom staff. Many thanks go out to all her caregivers at Shalom for their care, attention, kindness, and support. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Marie's life will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Christian Reformed Church, 1040 Balfour St., Fenwick, ON. Covid protocols will be in place. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations online to Fenwick United Church, Pelham Cares or Shalom Manor and Gardens, Grimsby, ON.
