Mary Lou LUNARDON Obituary

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at the Welland Hospital.
Born July 20, 1935, in Niagara Falls, Ontario to Thomas and Margaret Smith.
Devoted wife of 58 years to the late Roland Lunardon (2014). Dear mother of Tom and his wife Marian and loving Grandmother (Baba) to Deidra and her husband Jon McNall. Predeceased by her sister Rose Dalgleish. She will be missed by her nephew Gary Dalgleish (Angie) and she was a Great Aunt to Shawn, Linda, Bonnie and their families.
Mary Lou started working at 15 years old at Loblaws in the meat department for five years, staying friends with co-workers for many years. She married Roland at age twenty and he said your working days are behind you. Mary Lou had a remarkable memory right to the end. She talked about the days in night clubs in Buffalo seeing young stars to be like (Nat King Cole, Jerry Lee Lewis, Frankie Laine, and Louie Prima). Mary Lou had fond memories of Buffalo and Niagara Falls NY. enjoying shopping and stopping for a few drinks.
When growing up Mary Lou and her nephew Gary went all over Niagara Falls together, they were so close people thought they were brother and sister and to this day still talk about the good times they had together.
Mary Lou leaves behind best friends for over sixty years Millie Kish and Audrey Fraiser. They always liked to call her "Lou" or "Mar" and talk about the good old days.
Mary Lou's household in its day was a busy place with Tom and Roland busy with hockey, baseball, fastball, fishing and always working on a classic car. Mom always made lunch or supper for the two of us on our schedules. Mom was proud to drive a classic car around town. She would tell Tom or Roland people all want to buy my 1987 Olds Cutlas Supreme.
Mary Lou and Daughter-in-Law Marian were very close, and Mom always told her how good and kind she was to her.
A special thank-you to the staff of 6 West at the Welland Hospital.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment at Holy Cross Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Our Sincere condolences to Tom, Marian, Deidra and Jon. So very sorry for the loss of your mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. My Aunt Mary Lou who was more like my big loving sister who took such great care of me for many years. Until her passing we would talk for hours on phone about our growing up years, great memories and people we knew and lost. All who knew her loved loved her. Now the angels have taken you to your loving and missed husband Roland. Love Garry and Angie who will miss your talks also. May you Rest in Peace. Love you Aunt Mary-Lou

This past Tuesday my amazingly witty Grandma (Baba) passed away at 87 years old.

Baba was a night owl who would stay up to watch Dateline, 20/20 and 48 Hours Mystery- her "murders" as she called them. Her favourite reality tv show was Cheaters.

She scooped the best ice cream cones, cooked me homemade hamburgers with American cheese, and made the tastiest toast and jam (preserves).

Chapman´s ice cream should have made her their spokesperson because she would eat 2 bricks of the vanilla every week. Her other go to favourites were B.L.Ts or anything lemon flavoured.

I loved hearing her stories of when she met old Hollywood celebrities like seeing Marilyn Monroe during the filming of Niagara and getting Judy Garland´s autograph after a concert.

I have so many amazing memories with her to look back on and everything that she taught me throughout the years. I´m going to miss our weekly phone calls so much.
