Mirja MAHABIR Obituary

October 14, 1928 - January 2, 2023

Micky passed peacefully, at 94 years if age at her home, in Virgil, Ontario after completing what could only be described as the most fortunate life anyone could have. Predeceased by her husband, Rodney Jules Mahabir. Micky leaves her children, Indra Ramcharan, Satu-Ann Ramcharan (Mervyn Campbell) and Clifford (Bobby) Ramcharan Jr. (Sandra Mahase). Feisty grandmother to Mala (Mike) Gould, Stephen (Olivia) Crossman, Marc Campbell, Arielle Hercules-Ramcharan (Edward Hansen) and Damian Hercules-Ramcharan (Jessica Holmes). Loving great-grandmother to Jacob and Hannah James, Elliott and Jack Crossman, and Kailyn and Kaden Hercules-Ramcharan. Micky will also be fondly remembered by her many friends in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Toronto and especially in Ajijic, Mexico where she had her cherished winter home & her canine companion, Che-Che, of 17 years. Micky's first years were spent in Australia and Valkjarvi, Karelia. When Russia invaded Finland in1939, they were evacuated to Turku in Central Finland, where her father became a minister in the national cathedral, the oldest church in Finland. When an opportunity arose to go to University in England to improve her English, she jumped at it. There she met and married Clifford Ramcharan and after he graduated they moved to Trinidad. She had 3 children with Clifford: Indra, Satu & Bobby (Clifford Jr.) and later separated in the early 60's. After her marriage to Rodney Mahabir in 1967, they migrated to Canada and then spent decades travelling the world (over 90 countries). It was as a result of those experiences that her love of gourmet cooking and social entertaining was born, her family and friends were always treated elegantly at her dinner table. Memorial donations to World Wildlife Fund Canada would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Considerate Cremation & Burial Services, 26 Nihan Drive, St. Catharines (between Lake Street & Scott Street), 289-362-1144.

Sincere condolences to the family.

I was so blessed to have met your Mother 33 years ago. She was a dear friend until the end. I adored her zest for life, her vitality and her passion for just about everything!
Alex and I spent decades, drinking margaritas and champagne with Micky and Rodney and enjoyed many travels over the years.

Micky's dinner parties were over-the-top elegant, her food was truly gourmet and they were always crazy fun. Micky was always up for adventure! One moment two couples are having dinner and talking about Micky's love of bears, two weeks later Micky and I were flying to Hudson Bay to see the polar bear migration.

Micky was one-of-a kind. I am truly blessed to have known her and to have been her friend. She was a mentor in many ways.

I pray that your soul is soaring once again Micky and that you have reunited with the love of your life, Rodney. Miss you.

Micky hosted George and I in Ajijic, and there we came to appreciate her lively interest in people and events. She lived a lovely life and my condolences to her family, especially Indra, my good friend.
