In his 90th year, peacefully, at home with his treasured collection. Born February 26, 1931 in New York City, the son of Nicholas James Treanor and Amy Catherine Haynes, Nick was raised on the Haynes family farm at Pelham & Effingham roads (now Henry of Pelham Winery) with his beloved siblings Amy Lou (Jerreat) & George Treanor. He spent much of his life in the St Catharines area until moving to Gananoque in late 2018. In the 1950's, after attending St Michael's College, at the University of Toronto, Nick worked at the CBC, rabble-rousing at IATSE before leaving to realise his dream of becoming a school teacher. While teaching Geography and History at E.L. Crosby in Fonthill, he met and fell in love with the English teacher, Margaret. Shortly after the birth of their first child, Nick chose a new career path, entrepreneurship, and he and Maggie opened the esteemed Adam Haynes Antiques. After many successful years of respected business, Nick then became a real estate agent and enjoyed helping people find their dream home! Nick was an avid supporter of the arts, particularly emerging Niagara artists, and was especially committed to the Niagara Arts Centre. His involvement with NAC formed a base for many, many fabulous friendships (as he would say!) in his later years, making his life after retirement vivid, exciting and full of love.
Survived by his five children, Shannon, Tara, Nicholas (Lisa), Zachary (Shannon) and Bebhinn (Mikko), grandchildren Becca (Aidan), Madeline & Finn Long, Cameron & Roan Treanor and Charles & Zachary Treanor and two great-grandchildren, Ella & Oren Baker. Fondly remembered by nieces Sue & Jerri, and many grand nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Niagara Artists Centre (
nac.org) or the Society of St Vincent de Paul.
Interment and an outdoor service will take place on Monday, June 21 at 1 pm at the Victoria Lawn Cemetery, 432 Queenston Street, St. Catharines. Ontario's Phase One of re-opening allows for up to 50 guests at a time, with social distancing regulations in effect. Expressions of sympathy / tributes can be left at:
