Richard Emmons Obituary

November 2, 1957 - December 21, 2021

Richard Marshall Emmons suddenly passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the age of 64, with his loving wife Colleen at his side. Rick collapsed while doing the work he loved on his tractor and never recovered. He will be dearly missed by his wife Colleen (nee Eaton) of 35 years; survived by his mother Joan Emmons, siblings Sharon Timms (Art), Janice Stevenson, John Emmons, and Nancy Mohammed (Gamal). Predeceased by his father, Thomas Marshall Emmons and brother-in-law Jim Stevenson. Rick will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Erin Moghini (Steve), Andrew Timms (Jessica), Jason, Jennifer, Mat, Ryan and Rachel Stevenson; Aminah, Nasser and Aisha Mohammed; his great-nieces and nephews Jonas and Jasmine Moghini; William, Alexa and Everly Timms. He was the beloved son-in-law of Bob and Sandra Eaton; brother-in-law of Robin Young (Tim), Glenn Eaton (Tracy), Tracey Ruttan (Paul), Scott Eaton and Lance Eaton ; and uncle of Christopher Eaton, Brooke Young; Steven and Jamie Eaton; Cynthia, Kara, and Caitlind Ruttan and Kyle Eaton. Rick was born in Dunnville, ON. He grew up at his grandfather's greenhouses in Welland, which his parents Marshall and Joan Emmons took over in 1962. The family moved to Muskoka in 1975; establishing Windermere Garden Centre, Utterson in 1976. In 1997, Rick and Colleen became successors in owning Windermere Garden Centre and they expanded in 2010 to include Windermere Garden Centre Too, Port Carling. Growing was in Rick's blood, being the 5th family Horticultualist to be gardening and greenhouse growers, following in the footsteps of great-great Uncle Walter (gardener at world-famous Studley Royal in England), grandfather Reynolds Emmons, great Uncle Dick Emmons, Uncle John Emmons and his father Marshall Emmons. Rick was a kind and caring, fun-loving "big kid". He loved spending time with young people especially his nieces and nephews, often taking them for golf cart rides around the garden centre, having races in the fields when they got bigger, ending with a treat from his stash of candy! Rick was a thoughtful and helpful employer, well-loved by all his staff and well respected by his clients, neighbours and many friends. Rick got great pleasure from his many classic and antique cars, trucks and tractors; often showing 3 or 4 at a time with the help of his friends at local car shows and having on display at the garden centre. As a cat lover, he was always rescuing feral kittens, socializing and finding forever homes while spoiling his four house cats, Meghan, Ginger, Midnight and Pepper. They made the rounds with Rick sitting beside him on his golf cart or sprawling on his desk as he tried to work on his laptop! A heartfelt thank you to Windermere Garden Centre's valued office staff, Karen and Kari for assisting Colleen with CPR until paramedics arrived. At his wishes, Rick will be cremated. Celebration of Life to be announced at a later date. In memory of Rick, donations can be made to your local animal rescue; a charity of your choice or "Plant a Memorial Tree".

My memory of Rick and his dad goes back a few years.I was working at a huge sprawling property on Lake Rosseau. They together spread so much
beauty on that sprawling property it would bring tears to the eyes of sentimental people like myself.I know they will be tending Gods gardens for ever..Love your old school mate.Watt and BMLSS. Pauline(Polly)May God be with all those who need him at this difficult time.
