Rosario Iocca Obituary

September 12, 1935 - October 23, 2022

It is with profound sadness that we announce that Rosario (Ross) Iocca passed away peacefully at the age of 87. Predeceased by his wife Joanne (nee Salicco), parents Angelo and Maria (nee Pizzacalla) Iocca, sister Carmela Ciolfi (nee Iocca), brothers-in-law Dominic Ciolfi, Tony Ciamara, Jerry Saltarelli and sister-in-law Jean Saltarelli (nee Salicco). Ross is the cherished father of Angelo and father-in-law of Sandi Ip. He is the proud Nonno of Keana and Lexi. He will be deeply missed by his sister Angelina Ciamara and his 14 nieces and nephews (Louise Ciolfi (Peter), Angelo, Maria Rodrigue (Gilles), Lena Iggulden (Gary), Luigi Ciolfi, Josephine Henderson (Doug), Tony Ciolfi (Karen). John Ciamara, Mary Feast (late Fred), Helen Lapp (Bob), Albert Ciamara (Anna). Carmen Saltarelli (Lisa), John Saltarelli and Paul Saltarelli (Kristina). Ross was born in Castropignano, Italy in 1935 and immigrated to Canada in 1956. He lived in Port Colborne. He was a talented barber for 45 years until he retired from the Welland Plaza Barber Shop at age 70. He enjoyed gardening and sharing his bounty of fruits and vegetables, including his delicious figs, with family and friends. He loved to play bocce. He was an extremely skillful bocce player resulting in an accumulation of dozens of trophies over the years. He was a dedicated fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Bills and Juventus. He enjoyed his Mayan Palace timeshare in Mexico for over 30 years. His favourite place to spend six weeks every winter was Nuevo Vallarta. He loved to play cards, especially Ramino and almost any game including shuffleboard, billiards, backgammon and cribbage. He was an active member of the community and a long time member of the Italian Canadian Cultural Centre and Club Castropignano. Most of all, Ross cherished his time with family and friends. He was a good man. We are all blessed and incredibly grateful to have had him in our lives. Special thanks to Dr. Rob El-Maraghi, Dr. Matt Folwell, Dr. Piri Fejes from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario and Dr. Kim Scher and his wonderful staff at the Port Colborne Hospital. The Iocca family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Friday from 2 - 4 & 6 - 8 p.m. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at St. Therese of Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 379 Fares Street, Port Colborne at 10:30 a.m. with Father Janusz Roginski as celebrant.
