Ryan MARTINSEN Obituary

August 29, 1974 - July 18, 2022

The battle is done and the victory won for our warrior Marty who is now a soldier in God's heavenly army.

Ryan began his military service journey as a young teenager in the 79th Lynton Davies Air Cadet Squadron. In 1992, he joined, and eventually was employed by, the Lincoln and Welland Regiment, a Primary Reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Army and, in 2012, he joined the Royal Canadian Regiment, an infantry regiment of the Canadian Army. He served with distinction on three (3) tours of duty in the middle east and retired from the military in September of 2021. Ryan's life was the military and he not only enjoyed it but was very good at it and left a legacy of many well-trained and prepared soldiers to follow in his footsteps.
He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, kayaking, trapping, and camping. He was an exceptionally kind and loving soul, and his family and friends meant the world to him. He would stop at nothing to help anyone who needed him.
While we are devastated and heartbroken by his loss, he is lovingly held in our hearts and remembered by wife Sarah, children Evan and Emily, parents Pat and Alan Davis and Keith and Wendy Martinsen, siblings Tanya (Chris) Yalowica, Michael (Skylar) Martinsen, and Whitney (Ed) Ortiz, nephew Ethan, in-laws Harry and Janice Wood, and brother-in-law Geoff (Kristi) Wood. Ryan was predeceased by his grandparents Ann and Alf Rivers, Claire and Norm Martinsen, and Eileen and Earl Davis. Also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Ryan is at the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne. Ryan's family extend an invitation to join us at the visitations at the funeral home which will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd from 6 - 8 p.m. and Wednesday, August 3rd from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at St James and St Brendan Anglican Church, 55 Charlotte Street, Port Colborne. Visitors are invited to wear their uniform, if they so wish. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

I met Ryan through Air cadets. We often walked together going home from the hall. I remember him trying to hide his long hair under his wedge, As I haven't seen him in years,I considered him a friend and will truly miss him. My condolences to his family.
