Born on December 19, 1920 in St. Catherine's, Ontario Canada, Teresa grew up in Welland, Ontario, Canada. She passed at 102 years old in San Francisco, California, U.S. on May 7, 2023
She was married to Mark K. Pelini, M.D. from July 3, 1950 until his death in 2006. Teresa is survived by son Gregory (Kafy), daughter Cynthia (Jaime), grandchildren Mark (Haley), Steven (Lauren) and Robert (Tanya), Olivia and Valeria, and great-grandchildren Gwendolyn, Matthew and Benjamin.
In her youth, Teresa studied fashion design and pattern-making at the Galasso School in Toronto and always had a keen eye and an elegant style. She sewed, knitted and crocheted lovely items for herself and many members of her family. She met and married her husband in Welland, and moved to the United States not long afterward, after the birth of their first child, son Gregory.
They lived briefly in Pennsylvania, where her daughter, Cynthia, was born, and finally settled in New York, first in Brooklyn, NY and subsequently in Westchester County, in Larchmont and, for 50 years, in New Rochelle, NY.
In the 1970's, while living in New Rochelle, she studied for and received her Real Estate agent's license and enjoyed a long and successful career representing home sellers and buyers. Many of her clients insisted that their children and grandchildren "only work with Mrs. Pelini" because of her dedication, sense of fairness and honesty. She retired at the age of 94.
She and her husband Mark traveled often to Europe, to the Caribbean, and to Mexico.
In 2015, she traveled to San Francisco, California to a beloved niece's wedding and, because her daughter lived there, decided to stay. She moved into the Ivy at Golden Gate assisted living facility, where she resided for seven years. She made many friends among other residents and staff, and enjoyed musical and social activities.
Nothing made her happier than visits with family, at home and when she traveled to Canada, Florida and Mexico. In her later years in San Francisco, she received many visits from family from Florida and Canada, and friends from New Rochelle. All who knew her remember her as kind, generous and sweet.
She shared her knowledge generously, whether real estate 'tips and tricks', teaching someone how to knit or crochet, or baking hacks. She was encouraging and always insisted that the learner overlook mistakes and try again.
She collected English bone china from her teen years, music boxes and A LOT of yarn for as-yet unconceived projects.
She died after battling Parkinson's for several years, with a stubborn streak that helped her to resist losing her independence and self-care for as long as was possible. She died peacefully, with her daughter, son-in-law, grand-daughters and devoted caregiver present, knowing she was loved and cherished.
Family will receive guests at JJ Patterson & Sons Funeral Residence, 19 Young Street, Welland on Friday, May 19th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with vigil prayers at 2 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Parish Community of St. Kevin, 303 Niagara Street, Welland on Saturday, May 20th at 11:30 a.m. followed by Rite of Committal at Holy Cross Cemetery.
