William AUCHTERLONIE Obituary

May 6, 1949 - April 5, 2023

A letter to Bill. I don't want you gone. I know you struggled with all your might to stay here, but your body just couldn't do it anymore. We are in shock! We are heart broken. Your Sibs, Fred (Michael and Liam), Margaret (Caitin and Gabhan), your Steps, Jennifer (Paul), Richard (Carolyn); Michael (Alix) Hall. Your Grands, Lexie and Quinn Gillies, Max and Willow Hall, Annika, Cate and Liv Hall. You arrived at CKTB, St. Catharines on October 15,1986. You were my new boss! How could I, my family and Niagara have ever imagined what you were bringing to us. You transformed our lives into something beautiful with your laugh out loud humour, your incredible intelligence, and your belief that all things are possible. You built us a stunning house on the lake. You encouraged us to believe in ourselves. You helped us pursue our dreams... And we are not the only ones. You brought your passion to the United Way of South Niagara, the Kidney Foundation, Bethlehem Place and Women's Addiction Recovery Mediation. You entertained us as the Morning Guy and talk show host on CKTB and CJRN. You came to us, via Hamilton radio, from the Art Gallery of Ontario, where you were the Curator of Exhibitions, most notably designing the installation of the Treasures of King Tut, which most of us remember. You were the Chair of the Nikola Tesla Sculpture Project at the Falls. You were on the Board of Rodman Hall and Willowbank School of Restoration Arts. You were the owner of the beautiful Inuksuk on the Lake Art Gallery. And you were a remarkable astrologer. Bill, you were a blessing, a Giver in the true sense of the word and you really had no clue as to how much you were loved. We will be celebrating your life with us on June 18th. I hope you can hear us. Thank you, my darling Bill for loving us and letting us love you. Forever in my heart. Heather

I had no idea Bill has passed away. Heather please accept my sincere condolences. I knew Bill from my mid teens and remember him playing music at Bruce's house where a group of us met and danced each week. My funniest memory is of Bill and my then husband, Mike Maisonneuve walking together up Kennedy Road late one evening singing American Pie together. I met up with Bill again years later at his shop in Niagara on the Lake and had the chance to catch up. Memories will always be with me and shared with my family. He was a very kind and special man. Sleep well Bill.

So sad to hear of Bills passing. I listened to him on Buy, Sell and Trade many years ago. Then had the extreme pleasure meeting him many years later with UW, where he was very kind to me. He had great vision of getting things done. Most recently I met with him as he developed a year of my stars....
My dearest condolences, he will truly be missed.
Sandy Toth.

So sad to read this. I worked with Bill at CHAM radio in Hamilton in the early 80's. He had such a huge personality that once anyone met him, they could never forget him. Hope he is lighting up another universe. I am so sorry for your family's loss.

Heather, we are sorry to read this. So many, many memories from CJRN, United Way and life in general. My annual birthday lunch was always a highlight. Lots of conversation about books, politics, family. Thinking of you and your family. Hoping the memories sustain you. Bill will always be a cherished memory for us. Csk

We lost another great one. Loved who Bill was and all his years of hard work and dedication to so many. My heart felt condolence to his family. Bill and my family had crossed paths so many times over the years. When my son was 5 or so Bill did a photo shoot with him to create a pamphlet for camp dialysis. Then a few years later they did an interview together on cogeco to gear up for March canvassing for the Kidney Foundation. Then a few years later Bill turned up at Drew´s school to receive a donation to the Kidney Foundation and was surprised when he found out that Drew had raised it at a dance in grade 7. Then years after Drew graduated and worked in radio, him and Bill crossed paths again. And my final year with Bill was when he did a stint with a charity I worked at for 20 yrs, Women´s Addiction Recovery Mediation. He was a crazy busy guy that was so fun to be around. He had the hugest heart and will be missed by so many I am sure. God bless and soar with the stars my friend.
