ADELE FASICK Obituary
On May 26, 2025, Adele Mongan Fasick passed away after a life distinguished by achievement and kindness. Born in New York on March 18, 1930, to Stephen and Florence Mongan, Adele was a loving daughter and a loving sister to her siblings, Janet and Edward. After marrying Frank Fasick, Adele had three daughters with him: Pamela, Laura, and Julia. Even after divorce, Adele and Frank remained good friends. With degrees from Cornell, Columbia, and Case Western Reserve University, Adele joined the University of Toronto's Faculty of Library and Information Science, where she rose to become Dean. The author of many academic articles and textbooks, Adele also wrote the children's book, The Beauty Who Would Not Spin, which was published by Scholastic in 1989. In retirement, Adele wrote and published a series of historical mysteries and a biography of Margaret Fuller. She also maintained a blog, Teacups and Tyrants, and received the "Spirit of the League" award for her volunteer service to the League of Women Voters. A passionate traveler, she visited every U.S. state and many European, Asian, and African countries before her death. Adele will be missed by all who knew her, but especially her daughters. In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated and her ashes scattered over water. Those wishing to honor her memory are encouraged to follow her example by introducing any children in your lives to the joy of reading!
