Aileen SMYE Obituary

AILEEN MARGUERITE LINSEY SMYE (née Crossley) Linsey died December 3, 2022 in Portimao, Portugal. Predeceased by her husband, Fred Smye; parents, Lt. Col. Gordon Crossley MBE and Aileen (Weart); and sister, Phyllis (Weart) Crump. She is remembered with love by Randy (Jenny and Megan) and Tim (Twig) Smye. Born in Vancouver, May 15, 1928, she graduated from Lord Byng High School in Vancouver and also later from Carleton University, Ottawa, in 1968. She enjoyed a varied career as a children's librarian in Kelowna, BC, a travel agent for TCA, and then postings with External Affairs including Prague and Saigon - for which she received the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal. With her marriage to Fred Smye in 1973, she moved to the Algarve, where she enjoyed their substantial garden, her dressage lessons, needlepoint and hosting an annual Canada Day for ex-pat neighbours at their Serra e Mar home. Always a history buff, after Fred's death in 1985, Linsey took several adventure tours, including to Jordan and following the Silk Road in Central Asia. Her family are grateful for the kind care she received over the last two years at Lar Santo Antonio, Parchal. Cremation has occurred. A private family service is planned to take place in Kelowna, BC.

Mrs. Smye was such a contrast to Fred! Great friends to my late parents, who had 2 boys, too. Fond memories.
